Past and current Micron employees report job cuts, Micron silent on numbers

BOISE — Micron Technology, Inc. has been shrinking its workforce in the last year, but it is unclear by how much.

  • Several past and current employees, who spoke to the Idaho Press on the condition of anonymity, said the Boise technology and economic powerhouse has been shedding employees under the radar, both through layoffs and a bell curve that ranks employees and systematically eliminates those who score low.

*In a statement, the company acknowledged the cuts but did not confirm just how many employees had lost their jobs.

"Micron recognizes that many team members have been with the company for many years, and we do not take these proposed decisions lightly," spokeswoman Erica Pompen said in an email to the Idaho Press. "Our commitment is to offer all possible assistance to our team members through this transition."

No lay-off leaks the day before earnings. I think all is clear.

Appleton was a good man, willing to do anything for anyone... current CEO only wishes he could be so good. He joined micron in an up cycle. He needs to go, I will never buy a micron product again as long as he sheds jobs... I mean really, hurts me to say that but this dude s---s!

Enjoy our money mr India... you are going to have to pay for it at some point...

In one downturn, Appleton refused to take a salary until the company was profitable. Upper managers took 20% salary reduction and other salaried workers took a 10% cut. When the company was profitable again, the money that had been sacrificed in the salary cuts, was given all back. I guess the 'New' Micron wants stories like this forgotten by getting rid of those who have been around a few years.

Ten years ago we were loosing millions of dollars and Micron was doing everything to retain jobs. Now we are making billions and laying off the individuates who worked so hard to get this company as profitable as it is today.
