In a press release by the European Union: http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-19-3354_en.htm
L3 and Harris were found to "compete head-to-head in the markets for image intensification night vision devices and image intensification tubes in the EEA."
"To address the Commission's competition concerns, the companies offered to divest Harris Corporation's global night vision business."
"Therefore, the Commission concluded that the proposed transaction, as modified by the commitments, would no longer raise competition concerns in the EEA or any substantial part of it. The Commission's decision is conditional upon Harris Corporation's full compliance with the commitments."
The EU second concern was the "hand held video data links"
"hand held video data links, which are hand held communication devices that enable the transmission of high-bandwidth, real-time full motion video from aircraft, including drones."
What's really interesting is although the hand held video data links produced both by L3 in the Rover series of receivers; Harris also produces a Rover waveform capable receiver in the Harris RF-325N nanoSAVRâ„¢ which brings into question who else within the EAA produces "hand held video data links" which can compete against a proposed L3 Harris monopoly in the Rover data link market.
Thales produces the AN/PRC-148 ROVER FMV-MM with L3 so it will be interesting to see what Harris and L3 do to the Rover system in regards to the Rover waveform product line.
