Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Anthem Associates Hoarding Vacation Hours (PTO)

Anthem Associates are Hoarding Vacation hours as they are so afraid they will be RIF or Laid Off in the Next Round.

Basically these Associates are working from Home and taking Vacations while working Remotely or Babysitting the Kids Children (Grandchildren); traveling with their Children and bring their laptops to "Work at Whereever They Are" and playing Nannies for their Grandchildren. All this is to Preserve their Banked PTO, so when they get Laid Off at some point the Cash Payoff they get, is a larger pot of Cash.

Sad that this company is terrifying the Associates it is forcing them to resort to these tactics to preserve Cash for survival.

Maybe these Associates should be working more, but many have nothing to do. They are sitting around at home or meeting with Legato teams doing Knowledge Transfer of everything they know about the Systems they support. This is how Anthem is forcing training of the Legato (Inda based) Associates, from existing Anthem Associates. The Plan is they will be RIF or Laid Off after sufficient knowledge has been transferred. Hear that Loud S---ing Noise, that is the Sound of this company s---ing all the knowledge out of people and sending it half-way around the world to the waiting Legato Associates.

Many of the Legato Associates are just s---ing up all this Anthem sourced knowledge being transferred and also signing up and taking free Technology Classes (in-house) so that they can leave Legato in a shot period of time and move up at their Next position job at another Employer in India. Anthem is training all of South India so the people can get a even better job at their Next Employer. Fully trained on Anthem Systems in Claims, Member, Billing, Provider, Pricing etc. Plus the latest trading in AGILE, Cloud, AWS, AI and ML, etc.

How will this end? You get what you pay for and what you asked for. Let's see in a couple of years if Anthem will be able to get anybody to work for them after they have Laid Off all their formerly Loyal Associates, and or screwed over their Replacements offshore.

Perhaps that's a state by state policy. When I left last year in CA they paid me the full 4 weeks of PTO.

Agree [email protected] . Did anyone listen to Medicaid East town hall today. At the very end there was mention of more “changes” coming in October - we all know what that means. Also, once again spewing the Anthem kool-aid that it’s all about how we associates approach or view it and the attitude we bring. Riiiiggghhhtt. Nothing to do with horrendous leadership by people completely unqualified for their positions or the endless RIFs that have decimated staffing. Tell all the people who were RIF for no other reason than $$$ that it was all about embracing change

Update on this situation ...

Anthem Associates are still Hoarding Vacation hours as they are so afraid they will be RIF or Laid Off in the Next Round. Word is there will be a big one in October 2019 ... time will tell. Saving and not reporting time off, so have more Cash when they get their walking papers.

Basically these Associates are pretending to be working from Home, but really have no work to do. They have a few meetings to seem important but the real action is being done by a few at the top and / or offshore at Legato.

The new building is only one forth the size of the old building, so there is no space and more are forced to stay home. They are waiting to get their 6 month notice to move to Atlanta, if they even get invited. Many are pretending to go along with the forced move to Atlanta, but at the last minute will say they will not move so will be RIF'd. They want to string the company along to continue to get a paycheck , but that day is coming soon now. It could be in October 2019 ...

I don’t know about the Legato stuff you mention, but I think you are way off-base about painting work from home associates as babysitting grandmothers. I have worked from home a couple of years. I can assure you I work my 40 hours during the day, don’t take lunch (eat at my desk while working) and then work from 9pm-midnight almost every night. If I were in the office I would not do that. No way I would take my laptop home every night, set it up, work 3 hours, put it in the case and then take it back to work. And, with a one hour commute, even if I did bring my laptop home, I would not be working till midnight if I had to drive into the office in the morning.

The legato stuff sounds terrible. Sorry and disappointed to hear about it. Best of luck to you.

Nothing against the Indian workers. There used to be more US IT workers- and better workers -but have been screwed for the past decade by corporations and our politicians. First I was a hands-on worker. Then corporate told me I needed to be a manager. Then Anthem told me we have agile, we don't need managers, be hands on. Every day in IT US workers risk job losses. If you are over 50 and not a manager you may never work again if you lose a job.

There are 3 or 4 states that have a higher max capped PTO hours. If you in One of those states you will receive what ever is your accrued PTO and based on state law for that state.

You only get paid out for 40 hours max. I know because I was let go.

Looking at the IT Org Chart you can see that Indian external contractors clearly now outnumber the American based associates. Even IT leaderships are slowly being replaced by Indian Nationals. It won’t be long now when Anthem home office will be relocated to India.
