Thread regarding SAP layoffs

There are so many directors at SAP

I worked for SAP many years and it has been like this for the longest time. There are so many directors at SAP is a big joke - just do a simple search of the corporate address book where the job title contains the word "director". They are handing out these senior job titles like candies but the individuals that are no longer part of the "inner circle" are given vague job titles with the same high salary - that's where the hidden costs are!! Wake up and smell the coffee people!! The sad part is, these senior titles don't mean much in the real world .

You have lots of individuals that don't contribute anything but flying under the radar and collecting a huge salary. E.g. There is a marketing director from marketing operations that was "transferred" to manage the global social sabbatical/corporate social responsibilty teams - I bet you that he is still getting the same salary as a director while his responsibilites have changed to something meaningless.

The organization is very corrupted with a lot of unethical top/middle management teams. They are well protected and will cruise along for a long time. Don't even get me started on the diversity initiatives, they have wasted so much on these programs just to prove to the world that they truly believe in these principles. If you question any of these individuals what is the true meaning of "diversity at the workplace" - they will not be able to give you a clear answer (e.g. s-x/age discrimination).

Well said, @Zi49Bvx-aei.

@ZjAd6xI-1wfp - Thank you for the salary information, I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

All the HRBPs at SAP are soulless individuals that should not take on that role. They all pretend that they care about the business units that they are responsible for but they don't do anything when they are really needed (e.g. layoff management). Their main focus is always on self promotion and to make sure they are moving up the corporate ladder and enjoying the high salary. Just take a look at the career path of these individuals, they are being promoted to sweet positions without having to do much. What a disgusting bunch!! Sadly, nothing will change because HR at SAP runs like the mob.

The latest title inflation is - Everyone is a “head of ...” or “chief of ...”. Even a Bus Ops person can call himself a “COO of SAP region”.

SAP is almost on par with financial institutions now. This is the only other place where you get AVP, VP, SVP, Director etc. The only ones not having such a title is the bank teller.

I know of a guy who is a surfer. Not kidding — that was his job before joining SAP. He has super good upward management skills. Couple of years, Head of a Market Unit BU. Next round, become Head of Regional Bloc BU.

The average salary of an HRBP at SAP = 250,000 USD.

The average salary of a software developer is 150,000 USD.

Same situation encountered here. My country is not India. But you would never have guessed. Because once a guy from a certain nationality is hired as manager, he would somehow start hiring people from the same nationality. Once there is a critical mass, even the natives are marginalised. I find it very sad too, that a lot who are hired are just talkers.

One tech company that I know had a major issue 20 years ago with "home office" employees. Not knowing where they were, what they were doing etc.

How did they solve the issue? simple, they asked all employees to report daily to a forma;l office. They gave 3 months for those that were living very far from any office to relocate at their own cost.

The bottom line is - there is a lack of leadership within SAP because of these incompetent and irresponsible individuals with senior job titles. These bad apples are ruining SAP by s---ing it dry, we need to get rid of them fast - they should be first on the list in the current culling. As the previous poster stated, they are well protected and flying under the radar - no one knows what the hell they do all day working from home!! Their managers don't care because they are doing the same thing themselves!!

I wonder if it is like this at other tech companies where there are more directors and VPs (with no direct reports) than regular employees ...
