Thread regarding Cloudera layoffs

Rumors of layoffs in July

After MAPR officially closes it's doors in June, Cloudera MGMT is already talking about jettisoning another 220 employees.

Mostly from sales and PS. Expect an announcement here shortly.

Analysts are expecting 10-15% less revenue and Cloudera is already burning through cash faster than expected.

CEO admitted he was pushed out. Good riddance.

Now we find out that a hiring freeze is in effect and Amr (CTO) wants to see layoffs during the all hands call.

Bearden was right to bail when he did. The much vaulted "CDP" keeps getting delayed and field reps and PS are dropping like flies.

More PMs just exited and no replacement for Amir has been found.

Google is crowing about how in nearly all the MAPR shops, their first step will be to the cloud PaaS solutions and don't see the risk with moving to CLDR as a viable option. GCP is targeting them with active marketing like never before.

Direct customer quote: "We don't see a need for a different Hadoop platform in our future after MAPR (gets decommissioned)"

What this means is that CLDR will get some companies to switch, but, it would be foolish to think lion's share of existing customers will switch to CLDR. Huge amounts of unused resources are going to flood the grey market here shortly.
