35 years with IBM. RA'd today in Research Triangle Park NC. Was told my SAP Development skills are obsolete - yet they just brought on 2 contractors last month with same skills. BS! I doubt I'll hear from any of the postings on GOM.

Bad move - a lot of Corporations run SAP and moving off of SAP, or even to S4 is very difficult. I think the rush to alienate "old technology" workers like SAP is going to cost them in the end.
IBM's predatory audit policy has people trying their best to eliminate DB2, Spectrum, and all manner of other IBM technology. My business has already started talking about eliminating Red Hat products for fear IBM is going ravage the licensing.
SAP skills are obsolete in that they are no longer worth being paid at "new code devepment" rates but instead at "old code maintenance" rates. Face it, most SAP coding these days is simply tweaking a product to do things that it was not meant to do, as companies do not want to make the effort to start clean. You do not pay the same for code that wil add business and profits that you do for code you are putting bandaids on. Thse new SAP hires are making much less that the current ones being laid off.
Sorry you got the axe but think about it this way - You only live once and have already worked for so many years. So go and enjoy.
I am sorry to hear you got the axe today, colleague. I wish you luck, and think that since you have SAP skills, you should not have much trouble finding a position in another company. SAP has been one area where the American companies have not completely saturated the marked with imported labor - despite their best efforts. SAP coders (ABAP) have been imported by the thousands from India and elsewhere, but on the business side I know many people who continue to be in very high demand.
