There seems to be a lack of communication generally and few opportunities for employees to get to know each other and to network. Furthermore, there is reluctance to encourage travel, even when the relationships that can be built would help the organization. In other words, you are just a name and an email address if you are not given the opportunity to strengthen communication by travel to other sectors and divisions. (Of course, there is a large population of the company that does travel out of necessity, but some shore based positions would greatly benefit by the establishment of relationships beyond an email and an occasional telephone conversation.)

You know Transocean employees are beyond dum. They find writing harder than talking and 5 years are more effective conversationist than rig OIM's. Please do NOT try talking to a subsea tech, they look like ass hole rejects from the military.
I did not get this: "some shore based positions would greatly benefit by the establishment of relationships beyond an email and an occasional telephone conversation." what do you want to say here? can you be more specific, it just does not make sense as a sentence.
