You are correct, it is not all bad but it could be a bit short sighted from a business stand point. You do not make money off of a legacy; you make money off of producing relevant products at a good value that people want to purchase to give or display in their home.
You do not make money off of greetings that people can produce on line and send immediately to a friend.
Face the facts and quit reading the company's propaganda, I mean story line. Hallmark leadership missed their window to build off of their "legacy" and move into the twenty first century with a portfolio of products that would sell.
And what exactly would you do in the world of instant gratification and digital? We will shrink, and yes, we will continue to have layoffs but at the same time we should continue to be proud of Hallmark's legacy and nurture our niche market where we will always be at the cutting edge. It's not all bad.
