Haven't hit the bottom yet

I fear we've got some more falling to do. Everyone new is from the enterprise space. How long will it take for all the new peeps to realize embedded is harder than they thought. Fully expect more great long timers to be let go or leave.

Windriver being merged into Aptiv AS&UX?

Our new HR leader is now from aptiv ASUX, Avijit now reports to the ASUX president and Aptiv is hiring positions that mirrors the studio teams. It sure sounds like they are getting ready to merge WR into Aptiv and replace most employees with cheaper... — read more

Death by a 1000 reports

Constant reporting out. Every week, month, quarter x5. So many reports and never any action or follow-up. No time to actually do work. Parent company is su-king the life out of WR. Not at the bottom yet.

Worst President

Seems like Avijit tanked a multi-million dollar just to get himself a cozy position with Aptiv. He tosses blame to sales, product, engineering. Everywhere but himself. Also tends to yell and throw things. Especially if you are not his... — read more

Alameda Campus Closing

Employees have u til Sept to clear out their office. Aptiv is pi---d that the promise of Studio was not ready even though we knew it wasn’t. They are brining in a bunch of upper management for whatever reason. Hanging on for a package. — read more

Eng. VP is out, Town hall next month

Engineering VP is out, new HR director from Aptiv, a lot of contractors not being renewed next month and now a town hall late at night so the US/CA/CR employees don't ask uneasy questions live on the town hall, anyone else feel like they're about to... — read more

"Hiring Freeze"

I thought we were supposed to be in a hiring freeze yet we keep hiring VP's. A couple of Red Hat folks and others.

Future of Studio Developer?

After a purge of engineering staff in Dec. 2023, then cutting loose the contractors, and the recent stream of departures (including some key/senior engineers), what’s next (and when)?

Aptiv takeover

Interesting that WR is on a “Hiring Freeze” but have “hired” Aptive people as WR VP’s. I give til the end of the year and we are done.

Good riddence

WindRiver had a terrible culture. I suffered through an atrocious manager who made the work hostile, constantly made inappropriate comments about gender and personal relationships, & was just a bad leader. If you're still there, my advice is to run... — read more

The biggest reasons for leaving?

I was recently surprised when a colleague of mine left who always seemed very happy with his job and intended to stay here for a long time. The reason is neither the higher pay elsewhere, nor the atmosphere in general, but the feeling that he cannot... — read more

Deal Actually close?

Hearing nothing but crickets. Oh but we are voted a great place to work AGAIN. SMH.

would you recommend working at WR as a new hire?

severance

I’m waiting for severance because I still don't have any other option. Do you think the severance here is fair enough? I was surprised when colleagues from other companies told me that the severance pay was much better there, although I could never... — read more

I can't take this place much longer

I've been here almost 15 years and have seen so many changes in leadership that it is hard to remember what each one was trying to do. The current leadership doesn't seem to be about being a RTOS company or even a technology leading company. Not... — read more

Laid off today

After a little over five years at wind river, I was unfortunately let go today. I was kind of expecting it as sales had been stagnant over the last year and with COVID-19 things got a little worse. I appreciate my time, but was a little disappointed... — read more

The final dance

Is MK still enjoying the finer things in Japan on TPG’s dime? I heard he was having a blast with the family. Oh yeah and on the side he was “helping” transition the new sales leader to become president.

Worst president of wind river

1st KK, pro’s sold the company to Intel at a good valuation. Con’s after the acquisition he checked out and the company floundered and never really recovered. 2nd BM, pro’s good intentions and hard working, con’s difficult circumstances under Intel... — read more

Looking forward to 2020

Despite having a tough year, we closed the year with a great Q4 and I believe profitable for the year. All the cost saving initiatives implemented by TPG appear to be paying off and the business has turned the corner. Looking for a great 2020 with... — read more

Nothing will change

TPG is in the business of cutting costs on stable businesses, not figuring out how to revamp and revitalize. TPG has no expertise in IoT/embedded, they have expertise in finance, management, and accounting. So they'll keep the old WR management, keep... — read more

What software company could afford Wind?

Hearing from many sources that TPG is working hard on finding a buyer for Wind. The Green Hills and Cadence alliance puts a total value of $937M on Green Hills. TPG is looking at that and figuring Wind must be worth at least twice what Green Hills is... — read more
