Case: Discrimination/Layoff (5th Cir.)
Posted Aug. 19, 2019, 10:06 AM
A white deputy clerk for the city of Houston, Miss. may not proceed with her claim that she was laid off during a reduction-in-force because of her race. The city selected her for the RIF because it felt that her work duties were seasonal, and the clerk’s assertions, including that the city was motivated by nepotism when it made the layoff decision, didn’t show that she was actually selected for the RIF because of her race. The case is Harville v. City of Houston, 2019 BL 306256, 5th Cir., No. 18-60117, 8/16/19.
