Thread regarding Harris Teeter layoffs

Kroger, HT, and The Nature of Retail.

Cuts happen. Unfortunately this the nature of retail.

When the numbers are looking bad the first thing that happens is hours are cut and people are let go.

I have worked for 5 different retail companies, some international and some regional.

There is no loyalty or job security, you are fooling yourselves if you think it is about anything but the $$$.

Kroger needs to streamline and absorb the independent offices of satellite companies like HT. Move everything to Cincinnati, (they already have a marketing, advertising, payroll departments ect) shut down Matthews and get rid of some of the “good ole boys” that are s—ing up profits. Nothing like going to HT to shop and pay higher prices just to have two cashiers available or I have to ring up my own groceries. NO! Get rid of the overpriced mid managers and put more BETTER PAID employees back in the stores to take care of the CUSTOMERS. A store manager making $120,000 yr that hides in their office when employees are scolded over wait times is ridiculous when you don’t take care of your customers the way HT expects ALL employees to perform.

I was wondering if HT was being affected by the Kroger layoffs, since they still operate pretty independently of the parent company. I quit back in April, but co-managers had been leaving all through 2018 and we're replaced by less experienced (and cheaper) ones. It seems like HT was reducing payroll through attrition rather than layoffs.
