Thread regarding Cedar Fair layoffs

No layoffs but...

  • It's seasonal and minimum wage: Keep in mind that this is seasonal work and that all of the entry-level positions are minimum wage.
  • Mgmt: The middle-management isn't the friendliest, probably because many of the seasonal workers are teenagers and can be difficult to deal with.
  • Work, work, work: Work-life balance is difficult to maintain, as shifts are long, usually 8 or 9 hours.
  • Swag? Hmmm, no....: The dress code is strict and the required uniforms are often a bit worn.
  • Rules galore: Rules are very strict.
  • Mostly no air-conditioning, you will get sweaty: Few positions will have air-conditioning and it gets very hot.

You work from 8 o'clock in the morning and sometimes do not leave the park until midnight to get up again at 6 a.m. and do it again 6 days a week.

You earn minimum wage.

The food is terrible and limited at work.

micro management has got out of hand.

Something as simple as the color of your hair band can be a reason for discipline at its discretion.

The big wigs swim in their deep salary pools while the front line is actually driven as slaves without motivation.

The payment has recently been reduced for Team Leaders with the removal of bonuses.

Returning employees with years of service are not encouraged to come back.

The workforce is reduced at an irrational level to save money on wages.

Anything that can be at least 6 or 7 park wide positions can be cut because they save around $ 200 on the bottom line while ignoring larger losses, such as leaving the lights on throughout the park all night long with old worn out Equipment beyond it's lifespan because they refuse to upgrade to reliable machines and instead spend fortunes on repairs.

The list could go further.

In short, anyone who is paying attention can see where the money is going, and it is not where it is earned, or where it belongs, or where it is needed.

Get used to the word "budget".

It is everything you will hear from management.

Housing is tight.

16 people in an apartment with 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms that all have to work in the morning at the same time.

You'll figure it out.

Bed bugs are also a problem every summer.

These are some highlights of all the ridiculous problems you encounter in a company that really doesn't care about you.

The front line.

The defining characters in the success of their operations.

The real face, heart and soul of the company.

You are the breadwinner for a financial giant and the only thing that matters is that the boys in suits get richer.

Have a good season.
