I've been feeling like c-ap since it happened... I thought loyalty meant something here... I guess I was wrong... I guess you live and learn...

The CEO gets tens of millions to lay-off people. No strategy and poor management coupled with the believe on “cheap engineering” just out a nail on the coffin of what was a great company.
The San Francisco and Jersey City offices are completely closed. Most employees got laid off now; some were extended until Oct 2020 but will work remote. They will have to work until Oct 2020 to get their severance. Santa Barbara office was also hit hard, and engineers who work on LastPass in Boston were laid off too. Work is being moved to Budapest and Bangalore and Germany. Senior management apparently hates to pay for US talent, considers them an expensive commodity that must be eliminated. They seem to think all innovation comes from Product & CX people - software engineers just implement designs and fix bugs. All the smart, founder types in the US have left the company. Last one out the door please turn off the lights.
It was about 50 people
SB was gutted. 1 quadrant of the building only has a single person remaining and HR isn't letting remaining people even know how many were laid off. It's as if they are only keeping enough people to keep the lights on and the entire SB is preparing for shutdown. Main product building is being shifted overseas and product focus look as if it's changing. The few remaining will envy those who got laid off. Probably better to be laid off now when alternative jobs are easy to get than stick around for another 6 months and be laid off when the recession starts. SB never made any sense anyways...high cost location, expensive living for employees, and not enough of a pool of local talent to fill the high tech jobs. Any VC can see the potential gain from shutting down in SB and moving elsewhere.
My dad was laid off. He scarified so much, weekend work, missed family events. etc.
What positions/dept in the SB office got cut?
The market is rocking right now. I’m sure you’ll get a nice severance and unemployment. You’ll land on your feet. Still a sh–ty feeling but just know you’ll be good eventually.
