Thread regarding InterContinental Hotels Group PLC layoffs

Reference Check A.Brav

I am furloughed employee with Hertz Car Hire at the International headquarter in Uxbridge.
We currently have one of your former EMEA executives at the helm. Name is Brav, Angela Brav.
She claims she has done wonderful things at IHG.
In 5 months of Covid19, she has taken 6 weeks vacation, written only about 3 general messages to employees, promised weekly update calls that never happened and still has no clue about the most important factors in our business. She thinks she knows it all, but the superficial style revolving around "me, me, me" means that we are at a mercy of chance rather than actively managing the future. Realistically, we would have ended up in the same position we are today if we had a goldfish sit in the president's chair.
Question: was she like that at IHG? We are trying to understand if she is generally out of depth or just doesn't know crisis management.
Any insights or anecdotes welcomed. Ta

I spent many years at IHG and although I give everyone a chance, she was continually propped up by senior management as one of the first woman VP’s who couldn’t fail and looked over her many shortcomings. She was given all sorts of coaching from appearance to public speaking but what made her so miserable was her style of managing by fear and surrounding herself with a small group of cronies who said “yes” and would do her bidding. She was really polished at taking credit for other people’s work and not recognizing the contributions of her subordinates. She targeted people who were in senior management that had good customer relations which she lacked. Lot’s of good people pushed out the door, regardless of their contributions. I am sorry you have to endure too. We were a better place once she “resigned”.

Unfortunately you’re correct, she was shockingly bad.
Eventually and thankfully she got fired but not before she did significant damage, you have our sympathies, you have no chance.

I no longer work with IHG. She was, in no small part, one of the reasons I left the business. Not particularly because of her ineptitude, but because the company tolerated it for so long. I sympathise and wish you good luck.

Re: her time at IHG, you unfortunately summed it quite accurately.
