Thread regarding Merck layoffs

Looking for info

When Merck buys a company, what usually happens to employees who are part of the acquired business? I know some layoffs are inevitable, but I'm asking if Merck usually guts the new company or if it keeps most of the employees on, other than any obviously redundant positions?

Depends on the functional area, but it's definitely not a hatchet job as it is with some. There are areas that are duplicative that might get shuffled, though in my experience they try to find people spots if they can make it work.
