....because the SDSU administration did not pay him enough, while GA Tech in Atlanta had a whole new department he could build, and he would be closer to the NYC/Boston literary scene. The MFA sub-department of the SDSU Literature and English department kept his office for at least two years so they could claim he was "still there" when in truth, he was long gone. The issue of budgets is an endless problem with SDSU; they can attract world-class, unique professors, but they CANNOT keep them.
