Thread regarding South Carolina layoffs

SC: there are challenges in 2025

South Carolina's economy is growing in 2025. Still, some companies are cutting jobs. Over 1,000 workers are affected. These cuts span food services, federal contracting, IT, and manufacturing.

Compass Group (Chartwells) is laying off 350 in Spartanburg after losing a contract. ASRC Federal is cutting 319 jobs in Charleston. Sodexo is laying off 210 in Dorchester, also tied to a contract loss.

CACI is letting go of 109 employees in Sumter. CEF Solutions is cutting 108 jobs in Greenville. DAV-Force is laying off 76 in Berkeley. Bicycle Corporation of America is closing its Clarendon site, ending 64 jobs. The closure is due to tariffs on parts from China.

Despite these cuts, the outlook is positive. GDP is rising. The population is growing. New investments are coming in, especially in tech and manufacturing.

But there are challenges. Inflation is hitting costs. Skilled labor is hard to find. Global trade issues are affecting local businesses.

The state’s Chamber of Commerce says fixing taxes and regulations will help long term. In short, layoffs are real, but South Carolina’s economy is still on track to grow in 2025.
