Thread regarding Hyatt Hotels Corp. layoffs

So, what's going on with Hyatt layoffs (June 2025)

In short...

  • Hyatt held a large-scale layoff around June 17, 2025
  • Employees received vague meeting invites, many were terminated in brief, impersonal Zoom calls
  • Estimated 282 employees laid off, with some suggesting up to 75% of certain departments cut
  • This is reportedly the third major layoff in the past year
  • Layoffs align with Hyatt's continued move to offshore labor and automation

More details

  • U.S.-based call center and chat support teams were heavily impacted
  • No in-person meetings; terminations were conducted over Zoom with muted participants
  • Leadership, particularly Alexander Hernandez and someone referred to as BS, criticized for being cold, uncommunicative, or appearing to smirk during the process
  • Many employees learned their fate minutes before being cut off from work systems
  • Layoff communications included broken audio and reading scripts with no eye contact

Offshoring continues...

  • Hyatt is shifting customer service roles to BPOs in El Salvador and the Philippines
  • Reported offshore wages are around $400/month for full-time work
  • Guests are noticing a decline in service quality, according to some commenters
  • Digital automation and AI are expected to replace more roles going forward

And employees are pi---d...

  • Survivors report feeling "guilt" and fear about future cuts
  • Laid-off employees feel betrayed, especially after being told their jobs were safe
  • Multiple reports of long-tenured, high-performing staff being let go while less experienced employees were retained
  • Many say they no longer trust Hyatt’s stated values of "care" and "empathy"
  • Some plan to leave voluntarily or are actively updating resumes

Culture's Gone...

  • Employees feel that Hyatt has lost its identity and core values
  • Messaging around "exciting changes" is viewed cynically as code for bad news
  • Use of daily pay programs and fintech loans (e.g., SoFi) seen as warning signs
  • Morale is extremely low among remaining staff

Soooo...

  • Several posts on thelayoff.com predict more layoffs before the 2025 holiday season
  • Employees advise peers to begin job searching immediately
  • Growing concern that offshore support and AI will permanently replace U.S.-based roles

I was one of the separated employees. We received an email June 16 stating an all associate conference call at 11am cst would occur in June 17. The call will be muted and HR is handling it. We had to work 3 hours that morning knowing something was coming that was not good. The call on June 17 which was a bit behind schedule had a corporate rep Anderson Hernandez and an Omaha mgr Brian Stoner. Greetings made by Stoner with no energy or empathy then Hernandez started the corporate directive without compassion or caring. The zoom call was broken with the audio sporadic. Then after 5 or so minutes of dialogue, the call simply dropped with screen going black. Phase two was followed by an email for local managers to tell us from a script our time has ended and we have been riffed. They also could not look up to the affected team that had their tears and fears on their faces on the zoom call. Shameful way to break the news to people with over 41 years of service. Jobs outsourced to the Philippines and El Salvador.

Hyatt su-ks, period! Long-term employees treated terribly and it’s about time the guests started being told.
