VSP Optical Group Inc. is permanently closing a facility in Clearwater, resulting in the layoff of 43 employees.
The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification on Aug. 14 with the state announcing the closure of its VSPOne facility, located at 5600 115th Ave. N in Clearwater. VSPOne is a network of optical laboratories, according to its website. The expected date of the first separation is Oct. 18 with all positions expected to be terminated by Jan. 2, 2025. The majority of the layoffs are expected to occur on Dec. 14.
A representative for VSP Optics said it is expanding access to its network of Unity distributor partner labs, which will give VSP network doctors more choice in fulfilling Unity orders for their patients. While the company continues its investment in growing the Unity product portfolio it will "reduce the VSPOne lab network as Unity distributor labs start to assume Unity order fulfillment," according to the company.
The company will close its Florida, Texas and California locations by 2025. VSPOne locations in Hawaii and Ohio will remain open to fulfill specialty program orders.
