Peoria’s Liberty Steel factory announces layoffs ahead of holidays

Just one day before the Thanksgiving holiday — workers at Peoria’s Liberty Steel learned they will be out of a job for at least the next two months — and definitely through the holidays.

25News reports that in a letter from Peoria Steel Vice President and General Manager, Michael Richards, wrote to inform managers that Wire Mill operations will be idled from December 6th through at least February 3rd.

For years Keystone was known as a low cost high volume steel mill producing record tons. Liberty ruined the plant. One disaster after another. Absolute incompetence.

Unless the mill gets sold, it’ll be shutting the doors by July.
