I was RIF’d years ago and I think one of the reasons this was rushed at year end is because of the severance policy. Cargill pays your COBRA through the end of the calendar year - whether that is 350 from your separation date or 2 weeks. So waiting until January would’ve meant paying health care premiums for 8’000 people for an entire year. Isn’t it better for the family if these former employees pay out of pocket? People first!!

That isn't true. Those who were impacted are staying inactive Cargill employees until February, with all the benefits. Has nothing to do with Cobra.
