As The Texas Department of Transportation hands off Texas toll tag operations to the Harris County Toll Road Authority, hundreds of workers are being laid off in the aftermath.
Although TxTag was overseen by TxDOT, the billing and customers service operations were directly handled by TTEC Government Solutions, a call center and tech service provider. TTEC will be laying off 650 employees at two Austin offices by February 2025, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letter sent to Austin Mayor Kirk Watson and the Texas Workforce Commission.
