Dartmouth College's new president Jim Yong Kim told faculty members at a meeting Monday night that layoffs at Dartmouth College are likely in the fiscal year that begins in July of 2010. It continues... In an e-mail to students earlier this month, Kim said the endowment fell 23 percent, or about $50 million, and as of now, he doesn't know of another way to make up those costs. Dartmouth spokesman Roland Adams paraphrased what Kim had to say at the meeting. "At this point we're simply not in a position to promise that there will be no job eliminations for the coming fiscal year," Adams told NewsChannel 5. Adams said it's too early to know if those layoffs will happen for sure, when they might be, or who they would affect.
