Thread regarding Shaw Communications Inc. layoffs

Nearly 50% of all staff have been offered a package

6500 people, 48% of all staff offered package. Sales, Customer Care and Retail not eligible.

I've read this on another thread, still can't believe it's that much. I was terminated in 2009, but it still hurts to see what has become of once great company. Took me a while to get on my feet again. Hope it works out for everyone else as well. There is a life after Shaw. Good luck to you all.

they are laying off for ONE reason only--- save cost!

save over 500 million/year! -- CEO gets his $10 million bonus and says it's 'justified' for saving the company money.

to lay off half of staff. did half your customers just leave?

It’s a company I have choosen to

Work for and have encouraged others to join. That I have been proud to say I work for and they have taken care of me and my family in our time of need. That said, I have survived 4 rounds of layoffs during in my tenure. I will work for them for as long as they will have me.I feel a little put out that if I don’t take the buy out and stay loyal I could leave quite a potential amount of money on the table so I’m conflicted.

It’s not actually a lay off at this point, it’s an option to leave with a potentially very large payout depending on tenor or stay on but possibly move into new position / relocation/ retraining. One of Shaw’s new value statement is to be “The place where the best people CHOOSE to work.

I’m eligible and just might take it. I have to do what’s right for me and I have some stuff I’m working on. The package is lucrative enough. Also their giving us an option and not picking on low hanging fruit is admirable.

I’ve seen the sh--ty kind of lay off before. This isn’t it.

I’ve done very well at Shaw and have nothing but good feelings. For me it’s a really hard choice.
