In another significant development, an ebullient Hawkinson announced there are signs that Kutztown's eight-year decline in enrollment has leveled off and might even show a gain. From a high of 10,700 in 2010, enrollment nose-dived to 8,329 last year, about a 22 percent decline. As of Friday, Hawkinson said, preliminary figures showed enrollment of 8,184, an increase of 1 student over the same day a year ago. With late transfers and new enrollment still in the process, Hawkinson was hopeful overall enrollment would exceed last year's by the cutoff date of Sept. 17.
