Back in January 2013 - there you go: "The Westbury office of a Pennsylvania pharmaceutical company will close and lay off all of its 58 employees on Long Island, according to a filing at the New York State Labor Department.
Endo Health Solutions said in a WARN notice Wednesday that most of the employees will be laid off Feb. 28 -- when the office is set to officially close -- although some will be retained to wind down operations.
The Westbury office, which was used for research and development, is closing because Endo will be consolidating the function at an office in Huntsville, Ala., to support the company's generic drugs business, said Kevin Wiggins, a spokesman for Endo.
He said some employees may relocate to Alabama, but no other details on the layoffs or potential move was available.
Endo, based in Chadds Ford, Pa., was founded when a team of executives bought the rights to a range of drugs from DuPont Merck, a former pharmaceutical joint venture of DuPont and Merck. Endo makes generic drugs and branded products, including the opioid painkiller Percocet.
All companies in New York with more than 50 employees are required to notify the Labor Department 90 days before a mass layoff as part of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN). Wiggins said Endo was in compliance with the act."
