NMC Layoffs - Much higher mining and drilling costs have led to what's expected to be the first in a series of large layoffs of salaried workers at Newmont. Spokesperson Mary Korpi (NM) says while the business is healthy the cuts are needed to better position the company for continued growth in gold rich northeastern Nevada where the next big strike, Long Canyon, is in the permitting phase and other discoveries are now producing.
