Thread regarding Big 5 Sporting Goods Corp. layoffs

List of Big 5 stores closing?

Do you have a list with stores Big 5 will be closing over next six months. I am specifically interested in California but if you have a bigger list that's great too. I think that with us not doing financially well we'll have to downsize quickly and that is where closing stores is important. Everyone has issues, not only Big 5 but I think we have bigger issues than some of our competitors.

Wow- hired 6 weeks ago and quit today. This company is a HOT MESS and has the stink of RETAIL DEATH all over it. I was hired as an "MT" (what they refer to as a 'management trainee"). Their "training" consisted of having me fetch pair after pair of shoes from the stockroom and top of a 15' ladder, sweep the floors, clean the bathrooms and throw freight outside in the rain. Oh yeah.....and all for $13 p/h. Absolutely hilarious. Management is grossly incompetent and spend their days ENDLESSLY re-tagging merchandise for the next "sale." The company has their "sales" overlapping and running simultaneously with some 4-6 different pricing programs and sales all at once that confuse and ultimately drive off most customers, The staffing is abysmal (only the store manager and two incompetent assistants are full time - the other 10-12 20-something employees are all part time and work from 5- 20 hrs. p/w. The merchandising is a joke, with crap thrown up EVERYWHERE in the store with barely a rhyme or reason to it at all. It looks like a sporting goods flea market sale you might see in Mexico. This company will be gone VERY SOON and feels so much like Hollywood Video (only 6 people working most days in the ENTIRE STORE OPEN TO CLOSE), Blockbuster Video. It's like a dead and decaying corpse someone FORGOT TO BURY. Suffice it to say that this place has had it's day (long ago) and when a store like this only does $18K on Black Friday and then back to $2,500 the next day, it's time to get out.
