If the 20k salery reduction is true, they certainly won't get that by only yargeting the 30+ and 55 and older... it will require other groups as well.

If this is true then Smart Redesign was one of the most colossal failures in the company's history.

To be competitive in the "new" vehicle manufacturing industry, Ford needs to eliminate at least 20,000 salary jobs.

"Well, if it is like GM did in November 2018 till February 2019:"

Ford took similar action in early/mid 2019 eliminating 10% of the salaried workforce involuntarily.

Well, if it is like GM did in November 2018 till February 2019:

Ford may first ask nicely. Then if there are not enough people accepting the offer on a voluntary basis, it gets ugly. 14000 were laid off permanently involuntarily in February last year at GM if I remember right.

Will the story repeat itself?

Workforce reductions at Ford will be the new reality. Can’t believe how quickly this American company has fallen. Sad really, covid was the last straw.....

To be fair, I personally know many hardworking employees who are major contributors that would qualify (30 years of service, 55 and older with 10 years of service) for the offer.

Of course they won't take it for the reasons you state. Pensions are going up exponentially in a lot of cases along with the stock market, so why leave where life is easy??? Those even thinking about it will probably just let it ride to the next wave to see if they're part of an involuntary action- called playing with the houses' money. The only thing that shakes people is the fear that the next round of buyouts/layoff packages will be worse than this one and or they'll be forced to return to the office amid Covid in 2021. The Covid piece admittedly is pretty big, and I bet they're banking on this. Sure, there is always a chance they won't be part of an involuntary, but it goes back to life being too good. It's unbelievable they wouldn't offer it to everyone like in past voluntary actions because then they know it would probably be oversubscribed. I for one am ready to say adios Covid or no Covid. My guess is they'll wish they had after the low take rate- yet another bad Ford decision and many more to come. Peace out.

The problem is that many of those eligible won’t take the offer because life is just too easy in many (understandably not all) functions of the Company especially now with the scared of your own shadow stay at home do nothing environment. And those same people don’t want to change because they have been living off the gravy train for too long

So that means involuntary layoffs are coming to

It's supposed to be officially announced tomorrow at 11am. Someone in HR jumped the gun. Available to those with 30 years of service, 55 and older with 10 years of service, or 65 with 5 years of service. You have to apply for and then be accepted for VIP. Eligible employees will receive an email offer on Sept 8.
