Mandatory "Hybrid policy" RTO coming?

Any news on that? Some teams are being informed

Is this now only in Scott‘s organization? Or will this coming as well in sales?

If they do that, I'm going to go on strike in front of my house.

I like to see my peers in person. This is a right decision.

I was hired as a remote worker 15 years before Covid. They cannot contractually force me to go to the office. <

They absolutely can..

This reinforces the mantra constantly uttered by the dimwit of an SE Supreme Leader in the UK: “change is the only constant.”

Memorise that and keep muttering it through your LR talks . Apparently it helps.

When will they get rid of these useless pretend Directors? Why not these DEI jokers hone?

/If no one knows your team/function even exists, then you're a great target to get rid of. /

Read again: No one _in my local office_ knows that my team of 4 exists. Meaning: there's no reason for me to 'collaborate' locally. If you're a blue badge, you are using what we do.

/Damn, such an "all-about-me" attitude that needs to go./
It's exactly not "all-about-me". I have nothing to share, nor is sharing my job, so forcing me to enthusiastically share is pointless.

/(learn to spell or use auto-correct, it's available on any current laptop or mobile phone OS)/

seriously?
I do apologise for offending your native sensibilities with my poor, third world command of my third language.

/then don't look/
I try not to look at tatty ink by avoiding places where it is being shown, but the silly decision that we were supposed to talk about here forces me to go there.

/I'm also a GenX, but I'm also very loud when I speak. I'll try to use quiet or APR rooms, especially for meetings, but when someone calls me unexpectedly at my desk, you're just gonna have to su-k it up and listen to my half of the phone conversation/

then you're just rude. But your spelling is impeccable.

Explain how any of that makes sense when many teams are geographically dispersed and Cisco just shutdown half of their offices. It wouldn't work or be possible

... outside my extended team, nobody in my (large) local office knows my team/function even exists (that's by design, not that we're not needed, I would like to think:)

If no one knows your team/function even exists, then you're a great target to get rid of. I mean, who is the consumer of whatever your team/function provides? How do they get assistance, report issues, etc. if they don't know you exist?

... People half my age will not get anything useful from 'in person interaction' with me other than polite advice to 1. stop being so bloody loud 2. stop offending my tired eyes with their mo--nic tatoos.

Damn, such an "all-about-me" attitude that needs to go. If you don't like people's tattoos (learn to spell or use auto-correct, it's available on any current laptop or mobile phone OS) then don't look. It's their body and nobody asked your opinion on their tattoo. They certainly didn't get it to get your approval. I think your tired eyes would be offended by my ugly fat a$$ more than tattoos, but that's a different issue.

I'm also a GenX, but I'm also very loud when I speak. I'll try to use quiet or APR rooms, especially for meetings, but when someone calls me unexpectedly at my desk, you're just gonna have to su-k it up and listen to my half of the phone conversation.

I was hired as a remote worker 15 years before Covid. They cannot contractually force me to go to the office. I thought the ELT had already said they weren't going to go there, but of course, we know how consistent they are.

RTO mandates are being used in the industry as silent layoffs. They're betting the remote people won't go through with a move. And why should they? To get laid off a few quarters later?

They know this reputation. I haven't seen anything but many high performers on my team have said for the past few years that they will leave voluntarily with a RTO mandate.

Yep email already came out from
Scott earlier this week. Their reason? Collaboration! And, apparently, we asked for it, and it’ll be good for us!! hmm don’t recall asking for that haha

Splunk seem to have acquired Cisco and not the other way round. Mandatory RTO completely infeasible for many who live remote. Remote work was part of hiring package.

They "want to see .. working from the office two days a week" in five largest sites around the globe.
Makes absolutely no sense in my case. My quite happy team of 4 is spread across 3 continents.
To do my job I do not need nor wish to interact, in person or otherwise, with anyone outside my extended team, nobody in my (large) local office knows my team/function even exists (that's by design, not that we're not needed, I would like to think:)

The email mentions "access to experienced people, guidance" and acting as role models.
'Working' from office is good for two things: looking for a promotion or for a romantic distraction.
I am a genX burned-out introvert grumpy old geek, 10+ years here, not desperately seeking a promotion, happy wih my love life, doing my dead end job to a decent standard best when left alone. People half my age will not get anything useful from 'in person interaction' with me other than polite advice to 1. stop being so bloody loud 2. stop offending my tired eyes with their mo--nic tatoos. I am not in desperate need of being/having a role model.

I read that whole RTO thing as an attempt to help old people like me make their own decision to leave.

Is this what will be announced at the June 3 Cisco beat?

Just like everything else that Cisco does, it does not make sense. They have closed so many office buildings assuming remote work and to save money. Besides how do they want to monitor if employees are in the office at least twice a week when most teams are so geographically dispersed and everyone on the call has their video off. The purpose of going to office is to be close with people that you work with but this is not the case with Cisco.

Yes, minimum 2 days per week. Scott has already informed everyone under him. Soon other ELT members will follow.

End of H London office was a zoo
People had to work on sofas and on the pool table
If they want RTO a simple thing would be pay more but you must go in 3 times a week

lol and how? they closed entire offices or reduced the spaces massively. Even if you do 1 day mandatory RTO you will need to plan that for a lot of locations - otherwise you will have the risk that people will not find a free desk.
