You are a fool if you think they lean emotionally upon the action very much.

The term business is business, is solely coined to take out the personal exchange within the situation. It's designed to take out the emotional burden and obligation of the transaction, to itemize the situation and remove personal involvement.

If you have a moral compass, and should you follow a higher power, you will not be immune to the effects of your actions, among others. Mary Barra will be no exception, despite her mega millions. The wealth of this lifetime, will NOT carry you into the next. The meek will inherit the earth, and it sounds to me, that Marry does NOT fall into this category. I withhold judgement of course.

You're a fool if you think any of GM's leadership enjoys telling people "You're fired".

Problem with Mary is that she's not intellectually capable to identify that those she cut, become advocates against the company for life. Those and their spheres of influence.

It goes well beyond a dissatisfied customer for life.

Ah the motivations and next actions are hiding in plain sight.

First let’s look at the plants. Who are they targeting? Which employees would have difficulty moving - would it be the older employees with kids in school and elderly parents to care for?

Now let’s look at the salaried IT , engineers and such. Yes, of course they are cutting way too deep. In a few months when the laid off are desperate, they will be offered contracting positions for much less pay and no benefits— and be glad to get it. GM bean counters are taking a calculated risk that they can reacquire same or better skill set later for much less $.

GM is taking a page from IBM’s playbook. Mary is just not as slick as Ginni Rometty.

The contract go to bed knowing what is, and can plan accordingly. The direct salaried go to bed knowing they won't likely have a great Christmas, with far too many unknowns. The factory workers, have time to figure things out.

Mary Barra, will sleep just fine with her seven figure net worth. #AdvocatesagainstGM seems like a great hashtag that comes to mind.

I'm not entirely sure that is true. The day of reckoning comes within 30 days.

And cut the s**t about the not wanting to hear about the John Galts, millennials, and other. You get what you will be given. Your WILL hear, and you will listen to both the numbers, as well as the other. You don't get to make that decision unless you choose not to frequent the site.

I just wanted to add that all of the contract layoffs DO NOT COUNT towards the 8000 count direct-hires of GM. The contract layoffs are their own entity -- so expect 8000 - 2400 buyouts = 5600 direct-hire layoffs to come soon.

I'm honestly amused by the way older workers look at millennials. As if Boomers and Gen-X'ers are known for their humility, lol. They're all just as entitled and whiny as they claim the youngsters are. The ground is shifting under their feet and that makes them scared; that's all this is.

The world's perception of this generation of American workers is that of a supremely arrogant and entitled brats living off the hard work of their forebears, unwilling to come to terms with the fact that the rest of the world has surpassed them while willing to work at lower pay scales.

"How to lose friends and alienate people" comes to mind. GM may want the rights to that title copy.
