Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

A guy with some guts...

Below on post on Yammer by someone having the b*lls to speak up. Well, he seems to be a contractor (/C), so this may explain that.
I love this part :
"Whatever cost savings were supposed to be achieved by this switch are probably not being realized and the costs in user frustration, dissatisfaction, and wasted time may make any financial cost savings moot."
This could apply to so many outsourcing moves we see happening...

Hello EMIT, in my opinion the new ServiceNow system is awful. Many of the forms I've tried to use don't work, with many forms having required fields that can't be populated, and therefore they cannot be submitted. Forms that do work often have poor instructions and are counter-intuitive in function. The few working forms generate an RITM ticket number, but then there seems to be no mechanism to search for and find those tickets once they are generated.
Normal self service operations where users interface with EMIT are grinding to a halt because ServiceNow doesn't work properly. Whatever cost savings were supposed to be achieved by this switch are probably not being realized and the costs in user frustration, dissatisfaction, and wasted time may make any financial cost savings moot.
Since this has been going on for a couple of months now, does EMIT have any timeline on when the problems with ServiceNow will be fixed? I've opened several tickets about problems with ServiceNow forms, but nothing ever seems to get resolved. The "just call the help desk for a workaround" is not a solution.
If you do get ServiceNow fixed, will there be some kind of training that we can access to learn how to navigate and use the new ServiceNow platform and deal with its many idiosyncrasies and poor user interface?

Clearly anyone who has time to report issues doesn't have enough work to do.

@dtr+1eFKQNKN why don't we ask the managment including DW and his cronies to give up their RSUs for one freaking year to and use those funds to progress these kind of projects, just like how they took away our 401k contributions for 1 full year? But I guess the greedy mgmt. doesn't want to give up anything it is just taking away all from other employees.

It was the same whining with Remedy when it first came online. Same with QES. Same with HDSS. Just have to work the kinks out. Stop complaining so much. Jeez.

Not sure why this is on layoff. Sounds like a whiner. I’m with the guy who said that the yammer dude is probably the same as the poster…..and all the negative ‘replies’ too. Maybe instead of writing a diatribe he should just learn how to use the system. #winningbycomplaining

If there was not enough budget to do it right why did we do it all? It might have been better to just drop it.

I remember a yammer post with the “this is fine” meme, critical of the gaslighting by the inaction on sustainability. It got passed by high ups in the chemicals co.

Most people who used to dare to speak up have left.

ServiceNow has a ton of problems, but it has a ton of advantages and secondary cost savings that should be able to be realized in the coming years. Additionally, BMC (aka IT Console/ITSM) was very far past EOL and from a development perspective was a nightmare.

The problem is not ServiceNow itself, but the fact that the business pulled almost all of the funding for it but still required it be done. How are we supposed to do something well if you pull 80% of the money. Has nothing to do with offshoring or people leaving, it’s just the business pulling all of the funding.

One of the other areas that got gutted was training for ServiceNow. It was supposed to be a few months long and tons of options. They completely wrecked that budget to the point where people don’t know that we already completed trainings mostly.

it seems only /c folks dared to speak up in that yammer post. before that brave yammer post, I've only ever read a complaint about it once on this layoff site. strangely, the folks in-charged who commented on yammer don't seem to have heard the concerns raised before, and someone else had to print screen and explain "this is what I see when I click on the link, not helpful". (yeah... why did the interface show me a cart and $0.00 for an IT ticket, and none of the details of my ticket...) the interface is clunky and strange, the emails make little sense, and end users can't see details. anyone with half an IT sense looking at it would conclude it really is a sloppy job. (I bet the explanation given is "it's an MVP roll-out".) this is a classic showcase of us going down because they massively cut experienced EMIT people and outsourced to vendors. it's so bad

@nao+1eFKQNKN, if your e-mail Id is something like Doe, John /C it means you're a contractor, not a regular EM employee.

Yes not sure how we went from a number of automated requests with notifications to users and approvers that had context to generically labeled requests with 0 information and Not searchable if you didn’t put it in yourself. It’s stalling so many of our business processes. At this rate bring back the decade old mailbox’s because things are not getting done.

As I’ve said before, this company doesn’t do real innovation, except when it comes to new ways to PIP or outsource; then it’s how low can you XOM?

No sustained value creation or real innovation, whatsoever!
