You may have 16 left - but I doubt you have 16 accrued. Most likely at this time of year it would be 9-10 they would pay you.
I took 10 days pto before I quit, was still paid for my unused days, and then later after time passed I received a fed ex from HR telling me I owed them back 3 days pto because they made a mistake on my final pay. I now owe close to $900 which I was told in the notification would be put in collections after 60 days if not paid back. What a joke, how can a large company be so f–up.
Take the PTO and inform them that you’re done at the end of it. Look after yourself because they certainly won’t.
Take all your PTO, then give your 2 weeks the day you return. During those days off look for a new job or enjoy the respite if you already found something. Play the game, they are.
If you decide to go to a competitor they will walk you out the door without being allowed two weeks notice. Use the remaining 16 days PTO when you put in your notice as pay will stop the day of notice.
You are paid for any earned PTO you have but have not used.
If you look on your pay stub you can see what PTO they will pay you for.
What if you have 16 days and leaving in the middle of November?
It’s prorated. So if you leave 11/1, you worked 5/6 or the year so you earned 5/6 or your pro. If you had 24 days you only technically get to use 20, the rest get deducted from you last pay
I would use it, take 2 weeks off, call them in the last day and tell them you’re done (as long as you want to burn that bridge)
You will get paid out for the PTO that has been accrued, but it will be a lump sum payment and taxed at around 22%, similar to a bonus.
You should ask HR but I think you get paid out on a pro rated basis that you accrued
