(Bloomberg) — Companies from Apple to General Motors to Goldman Sachs Group are grappling with how to coax employees back to the office. Harley-Davidson is taking a different tack: Let them stay home.

The 119-year-old motorcycle manufacturer shuttered its Milwaukee headquarters in March 2020 and hasn’t fully opened it since. Chief Executive Officer Jochen Zeitz is even planning to repurpose the 500,000-square-foot complex later this year, showing just how serious Harley is in its commitment to remote work.

Jochen Zeitz

Zeitz, who took over in 2020, is the father of two young children and splits his time between homes in Milwaukee and his ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico. He says a combination of the pandemic and fatherhood convinced him that the flexibility of virtual meetings was far preferable to “less inclusive” physical office spaces.

HR is a scam department. I doubt any decent people work there except those in support roles but they should find other jobs and let the demons fall into the abyss.

HR IS NOT ACCESSABLE BUT YET SEEMS LIKE A BIG DEPARTMENT. ITS VERY HARD TO CONTACT THAT DEPT. IT Could BE USED FOR A TOOL TO HELP BUT ITS ONLY THERE TO PROTECT THE COMPANY AND That's WITH EVERY ORGANIZATION.

I'm sure most of you are aware. HR is not human relations they are company guardians. Ever wonder when you file a complaint nothing happens. It's a ploy to make you think you care. They only care for the company that pays them. HR is not your friend. They never have been.

HR reads these posts regularly. How do I know? I work in HR (not in a position of influence). The department as a whole are the executive teams’ bootlickers. Can HR leadership play devils advocate and speak on the everyday employees behalf? They could but they purposely choose not to. Why? Because they’re bootlickers, that’s why. Employee advocates……..HR leadership is far from being that.

To the Rank and file HR folks, speak up if you truly care about the employees! Your silence speaks volumes about your lack of integrity and caring.

If HR knows this site exists do they actually take any of these comments seriously? Real people, real comments. What is being done to make employees feel valued and not just the uppers? Without employees you have nothing. Keeping them happy should be one of your main priorities. Most are angry right now.

I’m going to therapy starting tomorrow due to the overwhelming amount of stress this communication put me through today. I can’t even function. Mental health should be priority but seems upper management decided otherwise.

Elcio and Gunjan need to step down. We need more open minded people in leadership.

Elfio (I’m stealing that!) and his reindeer/leadership team don’t get a rats a$$ about you. They’re selling a bunch of snake oil with this #oneusbank garbage. Read the room Elfio. You had an opportunity to talk AC out of this terrible idea and you royally blew it. You’re a peon.

As much as I agree with you all, will HR actually do something about this and revert their course of action? It appears many are unsettled about today’s communication and I hope this doesn’t fall on deaf ears. Not even one person I talked to was happy about this.

Why all of a sudden has this been a directive ? There are so many people taking vacation in November and December that it seems ridiculous

I knew things were going sideways and free speech censored the minute they disabled and closed yammer responses on all articles posted on the intranet.

Does HR even know this site exists? Asking because I’m only usually lurking here. The choices being made these days are going to cost this company.

There’s a mutiny brewing within HR itself at USB! A portion of that department’s employees are remote while the remainder are onsite or hybrid. Holier than thought HR can’t even be consistent in how they treat employees within their own department! They definitely do not care about the rest of us.
