Word from a Raleigh Site exec is 20,000 affected in the United States
At end of 2019 IBM had about 50,000 U.S. employees.
40% whacked in United States - That's big!

This sounds about right. A colleague of mine in HR at the Raleigh site said they were told 40K affected globally with a major portion being in North America, from entry level recent college grads to long term employees (Colleague wasn’t one of the many RA’d there). Sales are in the toilet, I heard they let go of 200 in Research & cut many delivery and development teams, GTS and a ton of North America employees who support areas like Procurement and what’s left of HR.

Sorry, I'm conflating NA with US. Typical American! The US pop is about 70K. So your 80K for NA may be good.
I think we are really close than as I had USA at 70k and Canada at 10k.

In another thread, a poster estimated 70K. It's pretty close. Of course after this week, maybe IBM will have 50K in NA.
Wqr. So what is your speculation for IBM NA population. I used 80k not 50k
I don't know how many are getting whacked, but I know that 50K employed in the US at the end of 2019 is wrong. If you're speculating a percentage using 50K as the base, your numbers will be way off.
Hello – I'm a reporter with Bloomberg. I'm trying to ascertain how many people were impacted in the layoffs at IBM yesterday. If anyone has any insight or information around the total number, please email me on ocarville1@bloomberg.net
Actual numbers come out to be 33.2% cut, not 40%
I know of 4 entire teams of 5-10 people, including FLMs, who were cut.
At least 2 of these teams had open headcount due to recent departures
So 40% in NA is quite possible
@onp what is Blind?
There are a couple of data points to take into consideration.
So let’s do the math
175/4 (90 day severance) = 44k
900 million / 44k = 20500. Sounds about right For North America from yesterday
1100 million / 44k = 25000. Encompasses Europe/Asia/one off’s (impairment charges)
So let’s break down the impacted
GTS/GBS NA downsizing = 15k. Approx 37-40% of NA Services
Cognitive overlap = 5k. Approx 50% of overlap NA
Systems dumping Power = 1k. Approx 20% of HW in NA
Again seems about right
It’s not 40% in the US. Most VPs were asked to make 20% cuts and divvied it out to their down lines.
The weird location stuff is, as far as I can tell, a result of some sites being in areas with more protections for workers and some possible future plans for exiting locations.
I didn’t know anything about the “relocate to Missouri” thing but it sounds like it was something that showed up in the package provided by HQ that the manager had nothing to do with. I’d love to see how it correlates with age because it looks shady.
This is speculation
@onp becauses it focuses on adolescent bickering about who has bigger total comp, dreams about FAANG and endless questions about visas for non US residents
Why Blind doesn't report anything yet?
