If your appeal fail, do you loose the package?
Please I hope I don't offend anyone here but....I'd be very cautious about the advice about "my friend did this.." We are all human, and we all have pride. Unless you personally experienced requesting VSP and were successful, or you personally appealed ISP or SSL4/5 and were successful, I think we should refrain from giving that advice on here. I say this with the utmost respect, and I would hate to see someone make an improper decision because they were given incorrect information. Anyone who has a friend who asked for VSP and got it, I'm sorry to tell you that your friend likely has too much pride and didn't want to admit that they were selected for VSP...Anyone who has a friend that appealed the SSL4/5 and lay-off but still left the company for another job, chances are your friend did not win their appeal but also did not want to admit that. 100% you can not self-select for VSP. And the appeals process is lengthy and grueling, if someone went through the entire process only to still leave Intel then perhaps there is more to the story than they are telling you. Again, I'm not at all trying to be dismissive or curt, I'd just really like people to be realistic and not be misled led by all of the "I heard this..." and "My friend that..." Rely on first base knowledge before you make any decisions for yourselves....and of course, best wishes to all
My friend appealed a successful with SL4 and was successful and avoided the layoff. However, in that timeframe of the appeal he wound up finding a job elsewhere and decided to go with that opportunity after winning the appeal.
Once you see the package, you probably wont want to. Take the money and run if you're at all able. Most of us at Intel are re-employable. Hopefully you'll be secure enough to enjoy some time off and then plenty of time to find a good job. Pity the poor people who have to stay and work with 11% of us gone. This is the beginning of a slow spiral for Intel.
Intel had an appeal process in last years layoff. Not one appeal overturned the layoff. However there was people who were allowed to stay for six more months. Intel has thousands of H-1B waiting for you to leave so they can replace you. Thus, there will be no appeal

You cannot use ODI for SSL4 appeals anymore. They shut that down last week. You now must be processed thru your layoff as scheduled. THEN you can appeal (within 7 days) thru an appeals process that they will define for you during your exit meeting. If they do not define it in the meeting, be sure to ask about it.
In the meanwhile, you can start documenting your case or argument in writing. You will need to enter it into an appeals form as part of the appeal process so you might as well start now.
