Those days are gone. Heard that when Whitacre led the old SW Bell the region took a major economic hit. He let go of a lot of contractors and replaced them with employees. Had technicians being security guards. When the economy improved they went back to their normal jobs. Name a company that would do that these days.
Why do some have the notion that a CEO is a charitable position? Its existence is to try and make the shareholders the most money. How many who contribute to a 401K make their fund selection based on the funds charitable contributions? I know when I made my choice it was based on the historical rate of return.
Sounds like CEOs colluding to reduce benefits.
