Thats way too far for daily commute. I would get an apartment for the week. Then spend most of your time job hunting for something closer to home.
You’ll go to whatever location your org expects you to be in or be terminated. It’s as simple as that.
Orgs determine which of the 9 hubs you’re allowed to be in. My org decided it’s only a few hubs out of 9. Everyone was told to move or be surplussed and backfilled in the desired location.
Exception is for market support with indicators that start with M but it’s still up to the org to decide acceptable locations.
Orgs are being told to streamline and centralize operations. It will only get worse.
I was in a similar situation. I was hired over a decade before RTO as a virtual worker. When RTO came along, I was assigned to an office in the same state, but over 150 miles away (one way). I was given some leniency as to how often to report to the office, but was told I did have to report a few times a week. I was not given a letter with the offer to move or get severance. I was not given a choice. Had I been given that choice, I would have opted not to move and receive severance instead, and I would have been honest about that. Moving was out of the question, for personal and practical reasons. The cost of living in the RTO region is astronomical, and I have no desire to live in an area of very high property taxes, housing costs, etc. I did my time and reported to the office, which seemed like such a huge waste of time and energy, as none of my coworkers worked there. I knew it wasn't going to last, but I am not the type of person who is at peace by gaming the system, and I made the decision to leave. It was the best decision I could have made under the circumstances and it means so much less stress for me. Yes, severance would have been nice, but I didn't want to keep paying the price of doing something utterly stupid (driving over 300 miles round trip to have conference calls with people thousands of miles away) that was causing me stress, and I was not in a position to stay at a hotel a few times a week due to family obligations after work hours, and the extra expense in that as well. Best of luck to all impacted. Everyone needs to make the right decision for themselves.

I’m the person who made the post. I’m in BAT Mobility… does that help my situation? We are out in the field sometimes. I’ve been in BAT since 2018 and was never really made to go to the office. I chose to live here 5-6 years prior to RTO. Do t make rational comments, think about it from my perspective, I have a wife, kids, and family where I live.

First of all RTO can’t suggest anything it is an acronym not an org. Secondly why would anyone or any org be responsible to suggest a solution for you. Why would you choose to live 4 hours away from the ATl / Alpharetta / Midtown offices and expect some sort of special exception or consideration because you chose to live there. I am in the ATL area and have worked in 5 different locations and none of them were remotely close to Waycross. I don’t love RTO either but I never would have put myself in a position to have that kind of day trip as a commute. I get that it is more expensive to live closer in and you may have been a TW initially so you made a decision based on that; however, everyone at T knows how often reorganize occurs and those come with many changes. This isn’t on T it is on you to figure out your life decision MOVE closer or find another job.
Why is this just coming up now? What have you been doing for the past couple years? The bottom line is, if you are still needed, they’ll make you report to the office once a month until they decide to lay you off. I am in the same boat, I have been able to maintain my TW status. I understand that can change at any time. But it hasn’t as of yet, nor has my org been informed of a new five days per week policy for office workers.
Do what the rest of us do. Either move, or find a place to rent during the week and let your family keep their lives. Start saving now, though, because that and the extra gas to come home on weekends is an extra expense you don't have this year.

Get on Airbnb, find a room that rents for under $50 a night, and do a trial run of spending 4 nights a week in town. Maybe a TDP might appreciate a roommate to help with rent.
Tell them your home identifies as your office in Atlanta. Should be good to go then.

Do what you have to do based on your life situation. I'm not leaving without a severance check. Leadership at T is rotten from top down to Level 2. NEVER trust a word they say. EVERYTHING is scripted and calculated. Act accordingly. Good Luck.

If they require 5 days in the office next year, the only thing you can do is move or get an apartment for during the week. Start looking for a new job. I used to like working here, but this is not the same company as when I started, and the job is just going to get worse as more and more people are surplussed. People will be overwhelmed with work and too much knowledge walking out the door.
Move is the only option. Or, get a small apartment and go back and forth each week.
They deploy policies like that to make you quit so they aren't the bad employer.
Best thing I ever did was walk away from AT&T.

What was your plan last spring when RTO was announced?
At one point they were searching for people whose home address was more than 50 miles from their designated office. Your manager was required to inform their manager and they could request that you move or be surplused.
Get a job closer to your home or a remote gig
You would have to move or get an exception to be FTW.
