Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Will there be any communication at all about these layoffs? I’m disgusted that there is no communication.

I was laid off a week and a half ago and my direct manager still hasn’t met with me or called me. I guess if my manager ignores it, it didn’t happen?

They will not formally empathize or communicate. And these leaders are so out of touch, when they share their lives that are clearly privileged. Hobbies like boating, traveling to Iceland, taking their daughter to Taylor Swift, “commuting” from their NJ home to MN! All while people get laid off.

How do you know in September there will be another round of layoffs?

The company never filed with WARN. It is required by law to file 60 days before completing the layoffs for businesses that employ 100 or more people.

The company will never send a communication to anyone. They will only share the names of the people who were laid off from your immediate team and it will only happen verbally. I know this because that is how the previous layoffs were communicated and I was laid off last Thursday and colleagues that remained told me leadership (if that’s what you want to call them) from M&R held a team meeting and shared the specific names of those of us on the team who were let go.

As another person said, you will not know if someone outside of your immediate team was let go until you go to reach out to them and don’t get a response. UHG wants to remain under the radar with regard to layoffs as they do not want anyone knowing the number of people or percentage impacted.

Being laid off came as a shock, but I can say that I’m glad to be out. Why I say that is - weak and greedy leadership all the way to the top, you’re only a number, your hard work goes unappreciated and unnoticed, expectations are unrealistic (to even come close to meeting what’s expected requires 60+ hours a week), the company preaches the core values but DOES NOT follow them, in company wide meetings they tout something as being a positive to employees but in the end all it really means is to prepare yourself for layoffs (not raising premiums…who do you think takes the hit for that? It’s certainly not leadership, it the employees, UHG is a revolving door (when numbers are good, they hire like crazy, when numbers are bad, they lay people off by the thousands).

For all the people reading this that were laid off, I’m sorry it happened to you. Please try to look at the silver lining…you no longer work for a toxic organization and for an organization that will NEVER get its sh!t together. I’m not saying this because I’m angry because I’m not, I’m saying it because it’s true and has been for many years. They will never be anything different.

If you’re reading this and still employed, you are safe for now but in reality you could be next as they still need to cut an exorbitant amount of people. The next layoff is in September so I strongly suggest you update your resume so you’re prepared.

I know this is a difficult time for many of us but it will be ok. Take care everyone!

My team received a formal email from the VP telling us we absorbed a team and what the teams will look like.

Sadly, my team doesn’t learn about layoffs until we email a team without a response or can’t find a person in Teams anymore. That’s the extent of our notification.
