Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Never seen so many people put their hands up

And volunteer to leave, after this last round of layoffs.

I had no idea so many people in my organization wanted to leave. There’s a line so long, people have been waiting for the past several layoffs just to get a package. You just don’t hear about it until after it happens.

“There aren't going to be any packages. And as people have already learned, just because they offered something in a 'package' doesn't mean they will honor it in a couple years.”

Wrong. There are severance packages and those are what the people are waiting for. They want their 6 mo pay and unemployment pay for whatever their state will allow.

I'm in my 50s and I'm not leaving without a severance package. They can expect more than 8 hours a day but reality is a whole different thing.

As for the age range...we have a fairly wide range, though it does skew a bit to the over 45 group. Part of it is because the younger people leave quicker. Part of it is because the older you are the more you have to lose, so you're more likely to shelter in place.

Also, think about it, people in mid to upper 50s are the last group of people who had a fair shot at working in the same place for their entire career. That used to be a badge of honor of sorts; it used to imply that you were loyal, hard-working, and good at what you did, particularly in white collar positions. There was almost a mutual respect between employee and employer. Now , because that type of career seems unfathomable, younger folks think it can't possibly be for any other reason than the older person must be an stupid id--t who couldn't get a job anywhere else.

For me, it’s because the powers that be are more worried about where the work is done and than how well the work is done

Employees aren’t wanting to actually work and take on more responsibilities due to downsizing.

Stink is a great success at creating the most toxic environment ever!

First time Stink was successful at anything...

“ I’m in my late 40’s and when I look around, everyone is older than me. I can easily see that the majority of people I work with will be leaving in the next few years, they’re lined up at the door.”

Same for my group. I’m the youngest person in the entire group and I’m mid 40s. Everyone is retirement eligible and just waiting for idk what, maybe SSI, Medicare to kick in? I’d be so gone if I was in their shoes.

Same thing in my org. Makes me wonder if the company has gone too far with the reductions.
