Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

We are nothing but overworked and expendable

I just heard someone suggest that working in retail today entails being nothing but overworked and expendable, and wow, did that ring true. That has been my exact sentiment for the past year or so at Macy's. Particularly the extendable part. I am certain that I am not the only one.

If you read social media sites even LinkedIn, it makes Macys look like such a great company. Most of us know it’s not and will suction the life out of you similar to the company I work for now. As a vendor having to work with the stores on project installs, rarely do these ever go smoothly. The woke causes they support are a slap in the face.

It also doesn't help that retail is now considered unskilled labor. Obviously some companies are better than others as per @aeg.

I think ISM is really putting a lot on SMMs and Visual Captains, particularly. Retail is difficult enough as it is POST COVID, but ISM makes it a lot harder. In theory, it might be a good idea if every store had the perfect team, colleagues, fixtures, assortment etc., but that’s just not the reality. They should have started this right after people were coming back from furlough in 2019 or waited a bit until things stabilized. It will take another 2 years to get to a better place with all of this. But yes, everyone is doing more with less and that’s why we all feel beyond overworked compared to years past. I hope it gets better. This is my last Holiday season. I don’t have it in me physically and mentally, and I can’t do this again next year, that’s for sure.

They treat the employees horribly especially if you have been there for a few years. Horrible, ungrateful company. Not all places are like that. My current employer is retail also but much better benefits for employees and better pay.
