Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Why things have gotten so bad...

How many of our executives actually know how to run a store? Give one of our execs a quarterly stock report and they can explain it to you in detail. They know about business, finance and how to run a board meeting. But how many actually could step in and be a manager of a store for a month? Have them make schedules for a month, deal with time off requests and people calling out sick. Have them do the daily manager checklist, BOH, price changes, quick picks, cycle counts, overstock, check in vendors, work truck, do a planogram, take down and put up sale signs, face the store, help out in pharmacy, bring in carts, take out garbage, etc., etc. Could they do it?? What do you all say?

The real issue I think, is that decisions are being made by senior execs with NO real knowledge of how they get implemented down at the store level. So, have an exec try to run a store on 200 hours a week, and still get everything done. And don't go over your hours! I say any one of our execs would be lost if they walked into a store. Just watch the show "undercover boss", and you'll know exactly what I mean. Don't ask us to do things you can't do! Thoughts?

They know they can't run a store and do what they are asking others to do. The days of Department Managers, Key Carriers, Merchandisers, Porters, Assistant Managers, Acting Assistant Managers, Manager Trainees, Head Cashiers, Cashiers, Cosmeticians, Flying squads and clerks are over. Today it's a Store Manager or SMIT running the store themselves. Maybe a cashier for a few hours so they can unload a delivery.

Yes that is true, but once they become a DL, they turn into a boss, and agree with corporates unreasonable and unrealistic expectations, and in turn expect them too! They understood the pressures of corporate as a SM or PM, but changed (and not in a good way) once they became a DL. They forgot where they came from and instead become just as bad as our senior executives. It sure feels like the higher up a person goes in this company the more heartless they get. Case in point... we had an district LP person who was like one of us, but once they got promoted to Regional LP they turned into a different person, and not in a good way.

Many of the field leaders were one time store managers and pharmacy managers
