Currently happening but wanted to get a thread started to capture reactions. I haven't been impacted by the layoffs but I'm not "high on the mood elevator" going into this one. Reading everyone's stories has me angry.

This company is large enough and prosperous enough to have absorbed all employees into the current structure and would have turned a larger profit by doing so they are just to lazy and not smart enough to know how this is what happens when a generation of people who have not known war or military service and doesn’t know that freedom is not free and live in this country and benefit form the liberty and freedom others gave them get in charge of a company in the US they have no loyalty or respect for America or Americans
This clown is only doing and saying what the clowns in optum legal have told him to say if you are on this thread YOU NEED TO WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMAN OR SENATOR AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT THIS WRETCHED COMPANY IS AND IS DOING DESTROYING AMERICAN LIVES CAREERS AND MOVING US JOBS OVERSEAS FOR TAX SHELTERS AND PROFITS, THEY NEED TO BE TAXED AT 30 PERCENT FOR DOING THIS.
Who is CEO conversation are you still employed if thats what its called now
why are you here if your not affected
I literally had to search open enrollment on the hub.....and then sign into my account to get to it. And premiums went up for me about $100 per pay period with a higher deductible/OOP. and if you ignore open enrollment, at least with us transitioning from UHC clin services to Optum.... and you don't make a choice, you won't have medical coverage next year. Maybe that's why they aren't making open enrollment obvious.....
The 2020 Open Enrollment started today. I did not see an announcement or a announcement on the HUB.
Psycho babble.......no one is safe....they are just preparing the mind for when you are let go....permanently. ALL of IT will be going overseas. We were warned. IT staff is not the money maker......it will cease to exist here in the USA.......OPTUM is just mimicking the other big companies.....taking the work to other parts of the world. Live under your means and don't expect companies to dish out the high salaries in IT like in the past. Expect a lifestyle change after you are let go.....most companies are not paying the big bucks in IT as they once were. Learn to enjoy the things that are free....nature, spending time with family, friends and such.............no sense in looking back to a company that has decided that their American company is no longer American......they wish to call themselves an American perhaps global company yet ninety plus people working for them in the future will not be in the USA. They can use our country (USA) name for tax purposes yet not employ the American worker. They are not alone.......no sense in spending our precious energy and resources on a company/companies who have no USA interest. This is no different than the many companies that moved over seas in the production industry years ago. We are consumers, so therefore we can chose to buy from companies who care and support the USA.....beyond that it is a waste to look back and fret.....its not worth the energy. -Let go after 20 plus years of working for a company that I believed in..............do not take this personal people....as I had stellar reviews, worked great with my peers.....let go as a 29.......I was given no warning that my staff under me was going to be let go as well. If you are here in the states and you are in IT, you can expect to be let go within the next few years......that is the way the company has chosen to go......if out of necessity or greed.......it is what it is......move forward and don't look back.
I thought it was cold how nonchalantly he spoke of layoffs.
Optum has always said they are the money maker.
Much more intense/ doom & gloom than his previous convos. He’s obviously feeling pressure from the board. Adding 6k jobs is really not that much given the size of the organization, acquisitions and attrition. Most requisitions are frozen. Only new business/ revenue generating will hire. Admittedly, I loved optum but lately have been kind of embarrassed if its greed.
i heard synergies, duplication and opportunities preceded by 'people will leave for one reason or another, some may retire, some for other reasons'
He did not sugar coat it. Loved his line about the the front line knowing these things before the generals do. It is true. Still soldiers suffer and generals prosper. How about taking volunteers. Put an offer out there. Make it fair and equitable. Plenty would sign up. But instilling fear and demoralizing the troops...kind of the way of the world these days.
Are the 6000 jobs he mentioned they will hire between now and the end of year all offshore?
Very telling that he mentioned duplicate departments.
Starting to hint at org duplication and product obsolescence. While I agree that's wasteful, I feel the leaders who make those decisions should be held accountable not the people who get hired.
Yup, curious that there is still no mention of the organizations brought in to Optum. For those who merged from uhc to Optum, we haven’t been given any communication and it has been months. Such poor leadership
I think it is very strange we haven't gotten our healthcare benefit package for 2020
