Interesting times!

Remember anyone with no skills are accepted to QC, APPLE is not like that, only top notch people are getting hired.

In addition, many IPs coming off his team revealed quality issues and have been bottlenecks for qualcomm products. These include ddr, Serdes, USB, and more.

Also, I don't think Apple is in the habit of hiring mediocre engineers that make 'multiple mistakes' at the highest level. They obviously do some amount of due dilligence before installing people within the company.

Their A10 SOC pretty much destroys the 835 in every dimension. I don't think the 845 is going to close the huge gap especially with A11 around the corner.

So he made many mistakes yet was allowed to decide and decree Q's technology direction for multiple years of those mistakes?

Shouldn't the blame be on PJ and SM?

Why was he allowed to continue for years of subpar performance?

A more logical explanation is that he did a good job and just saw a better future at Apple. All leading edge nodes have issues in this day and age.

Deciding technology roadmap is critical, but not so difficult task. He got over hyped doing this job though he made wrong decision so many times.

I'm reading this as a loss in confidence in Q's technology roadmap.

20nm was a long time ago.

VPs should be accountable.

Period.

Leadership at Q is weak.

He would be fired if he stayed longer. He put so many projects into risk including 20soc, 20gf, qlink, and many others.

If it was 'good' to lose him, why was he not fired for those 'screw ups'?

If there is no accountability at the VP level then that's even more damning for the leadership at QCOM.

More likely is that Apple has better prospects than QCOM.

He screwed up so many things, not a super star. It is good to lose him.

Esin was my VP until he left. He's one of best technologists that Qualcomm had, and an excellent executive. Him leaving is a big loss.
