Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Great hope for Macy's

Dear present and past employees that have posted on this site.....Macy's has offered me many great opportunities in the 38 years I have been with this company. They have put food on my table, contributed to my medical plan, paid the mortgage on my home, contributed to my pension fund and more. Yes, it is true we are in some challenging times, as many retailers are experiencing. We have great talent on our team and yes, there will be change.......this is needed to succeed and progress in this ever changing environment. I am in the IT group, and see great changes ahead that will enable us to forge ahead and meet the challenge. Let's all put our thoughts to Believe in the company and trust Jeff and team to guide us. I am on the "Believe" team. Let's grow this team!

MST over 30 years?, I was MST for 10 years till stores closed and I was laid off. You seem so overly optimistic it makes me sick. Granted I also enjoyed all the perks that working with MST entailed. Realistically speaking retail in general is doomed. Meaning what ever plan Jeff has is really not going to save the company, only prolong it. I hope you believe in the so called magic when you find yourself on the unemployment line after 30 plus years which isn't if but when. The only thing for sure is your tenure with the company will soon be a severance package. This is not your MST from 30 let alone 10 years ago. But at least you'll get your full pension.

If you only knew what really happens in the stores. Management is afraid to talk about it in a round table setting with Human resources, because someone will immediately text the store manager with details. We all know that the store managers have their favorites. I've been with the company for several years and have seen the frustrations ans tears of managers afraid to speak up do to retaliation they need their jobs to support their family. We don't trust our Human resource they always side up with the Store Manager and DM they cover for each other . Human resources never bubbles the situation .They make you feel like your over reacting that your Store Manager or DM was not brow beating or bullIed you . If you what the truth it has to be private one one and have 100% participation......not have the store manager hand pick a group that will be afraid to speak up!!! Macys has a lot of dirty secrets...We all need to be strong and share what is happening.

Macy's truly loyal customer base is the baby boomer . . . and their aging, near-retirement children. The prize for Macy's and ALL RETAILERS are the Millennials. Millennials aren't shopping at Macy's in the way that their parents or grandparents did. They are not shopping retailers like their parents did. They buy online, and it doesn't matter where what they want comes from. They buy the best for the least amount of their dollars - they will choose a place that offers free shipping over a place that doesn't.

I am an associate, and I see the frustration of Macy's so-called loyal customers - not being able to use coupons, not having what they want in store, trying to go with the trend and buying online only to receive it broken or in bad condition because the back of the house doesn't take care with packaging. Most of those people are not computer savvy and they refuse to buy online. When they are convinced to, they have difficulties in returning, or the quality, etc. At least once a day, I face a boomer customer who tells me that they are closing their account and never shopping at Macy's again. Hopefully the new (old) credit roll out will help with some of that.

Loyal customers can stick with Macy's as long as their life lasts, but as a game plan for Macy's that is a losing war of attrition. Until they get those young people to become life long Macy's customers, they have a real problem.

First of all, my heart goes out to all that have lost their jobs with Macy's. My daughter has been employed with by Macy's for 5 years and has been treated very well, a happy employee.

I am an executive with a major company, not retail related. I see the changes taking place within the retail sector and know that there are great challenges that lay ahead for companies like Macy's. Keeping their loyal customer base is key, which in turn will be achieved with LOYAL employees.

I am not speaking that employees who have lost their positions were not loyal. Tough decisions for any company to have to down size. For those of you reading this that remain actively employed, the change begins with you. You can make a difference . I have great respect for your company leaders, past and present. Macy's is an iconic retailer.

To the employee of 38 years that posted her thoughts, kudos to you! You have adapted to the changing environment, obviously. A loyal employee who cares enough to post a positive word. I am certain you are a very valued employee.

Macy's has my business and will for a much longer time to come!

"Believe in the company."

What happens when you believe in the company, you do everything right - you are recognized for your efforts and yet you find yourself on the unemployment line?

With all due respect, it is easy to say and even think that Macy's will keep good workers - what business wouldn't want to keep good workers? That thinking comes from the notion that corporate America is a just and fair place - if you work hard, you will be rewarded. Unfortunately, that corporate America hasn't existed since the early 1970s. If believing that Macy's or any employer is "just and fair" when considering its bottom line helps you to sleep at night, then power to you. But, the reality is that when it comes to a corporation like Macy's who has shareholders to answer to, nothing is off limits when it comes to protecting the corporation. Even if that means laying off a good worker.

Trust.

Truthfully, it doesn't matter what kind of worker you are - when Macy's conducts layoffs, no one is safe. Not the Magic Maker. Not the highest producing credit associate. Not even a manager in their Macy's internship program. No one. Legal and HR quite literally cut people based on a wide variety of factors including salary, sometimes seniority, but none of those metrics covers "positivity." All of Macy's protocols for layoff and position elimination are on the portal. All you must do is find them. They are quite illuminating. And, length of service is no guarantee that you will continue to be spared cuts or layoffs. At some point, you are all that is left TO BE CUT.

Keeping one's job at Macy's when it is of a mind to downsize boils down to luck of the draw basically.

Best to all under the big red umbrella!

She says she work 38 years? She should know then what she talks about. She probably trying to get you negative people to change your altitude. Some people lose jobs because of the way they do things. Calling in sick all the time and not doing a good job. Maybe instead of looking over your shoulder you should be doing a better job. Then yous would keep it even if the Macy's is laying off. They will keep good workers.

Angie Councilman. MST. It takes about three minutes of semi-intelligent research to deduce that you do not exist. No one, not even my pet, has a linkedIn with zero connections, and certainly not a career techie. You have absolutely NO digital footprint . . . no side hustles (everyone at Macy's has a side hustle) . . . no avocations or interests. You are not real.

Macy's propagandists cannot even mount a suitable fake identity for a poster on a low level layoff discussion site.

Giggling like a school girl.

38 years??? You have been with Macy's for 38 years?????? All of it in the IT group?? I'm sorry if I am repeating myself, but I'm incredulous that you have been able to exist as a "regular" employee with Macy's (or any retailer) for nearly 4 decades of your life. If what you say is true, then you have most assuredly seen the carnage, watched as your colleagues have been summarily let go, while Terry Lundgren and his upper crust eat cake, and you know darn well that what you say is absolutely untrue. There comes a point when blind "positivity" (not the word I would choose to describe 38 years at Macy's) and always hoping for the best become pathological and unhealthy, and most definitely counter survival. Angie, I say this with all sincerity and a sense of deep concern, YOU ARE EXACTLY THE TYPE OF EMPLOYEE WHOSE HEAD LAYS UPON THE GUILLOTINE. 10,000 PTO days, salary that could pay three store associates, and of a certain age makes you prime. I've seen it. It's happening. So, check back in when you get read your script from HR about why they are asking that you step down. All the best, but really?

lol.. Some people are lifers. And will do whatever fore this company even if they get screwed themselves. This company has lost its soul and is nothing what it use to be. I miss those good old days when employees came first and employees really matter. know it's survival of the fittest. make yourself a favor and reeducate yourself and a better job.

Sure I can do housekeeping for you. Sure I can s--- you d"'k. Sure I'll find away to fire them. Sure I can give up my paycheck for charity so you can say you gave the money. You have to draw the line somewhere.

I can understand the need to let people go to save. What I cannot stand is the lie. Lies on TV everyday, and lies in company everyday. The so called EQ is the ability to lie without feeling guilty. If you cannot lie, you will not survive, let alone move up

Congratulations on your marriage. After Thanksgiving is considered a "black" out period for requests for time off. Remember this is retail. At least you picked the right retailer to work for!

Oh please. This is the company that has to check with HR in order for an employee to take time off to get married on Christmas Eve. Idiocy. It’s a sinking ship, run by mental midgets who cannot make a decision.

One had to check with HR to give an employee time to get married? That tells the employee he or she is not important. Only the almighty dollar is.

Please, Pollyanna, knock it off.

Angie, suggest fixing the cumbersome changes to my client. The team that you had beta-tested apparently does not know how we use it in the field. Get us away from this old system...in 2017 I can't read real time sales by fob and vendor.

Update pos to this century! Too many separate systems....sales, .com, credit, receipts, inventory and none talk to each other in real time

Every friday about this time these kind of posts show up on many companies. It's obviously management posing as a regular person in hopes of countering the layoffs and bad press they're getting.

Yeah, they're that desperate. Pretty sad huh?

Only makes matters worse, cause its so obviously cheerleading. No normal person would ever post this kind of tripe.
