Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

REPOST: Age Statistics on Layoff - Looks like Ageism to me!

FWIW, I analyzed the data in the OWBPA Disclosure Statement included with the September severance agreement. The takeaway is that the average age for the 277 laid off was 43.8 years, while the average age for those retained was 38.4 years, a difference of over five years. The probability of this happening through random selection is less than 1 in 10 to the 18th, (less than one in a billion billion), or essentially impossible.

From the June layoff the average age was 44. The median age was also 44. Breaking the ages down into 10 year brackets (20-30, 31-40, etc.) showed a perfect curve with the tallest point being the average/median. It's quite clear that there were quotas to fill across the age spectrum. Nike had to sacrifice a number of young people to get rid of us older employees.

The layoffs in tech have been planned for a LONG time I believe. It started a couple of years ago when they started handing out bogus performance reviews. You know, coaching for s---sess. I know at one time a couple years ago tech employees were rated into quadrants with the lowest rank being called blockers.

Nike is definitely a wolf in sheep's clothing. Nike treated us poorly for over 2 years to justify letting us go. I will give Nike credit for the severance; however, I believe that was simply hush money to mitigate lawsuits.

You can put lip stick on a pig but it's still a pig. People at Nike who have tenure and age know they are targeted. One way or the other. Not everyone wants to be a director but that does not mean they are lazy or do not contribute. Nike talks about a diverse work force but not include age. They never mention age.
