Thread regarding SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. layoffs

No department has good news...

Leadership is at a all time low. I still think hourly leadership is next on the list. My friend in HR told me they had a meetings about restructuring hourly leadership in entertainment, merchandise, culinary, and operations after they re-evaluate salary leadership as see what’s left. She stated the park will cut supervisors and assistants in all departmtents as they she said they will take in more responsibility and have broader areas. The park is doing this layoff incorrectly. They are keeping everything a secret behind closed doors in HR. My friend says hourly leadership will be called in “meetings” on Friday to explain the new restructure of hourly leadership and demote others. Who knows what’s going to happen, but my friend HR is looking for a new job also. She was a former park ops supervisor and said it would be smart for all hourly leaders to call in. Who knows whats true anymore as all departments are talking and it’s all negative. Theirs no good news from anyone.

Another huge loss. Sea world is laying off salary workers. And anyone who had been an employee for a lobg time because they make more than a few dollars over minimum wage. Basically sea world is cheaping out on its own people and blaming the public. The San Diego park was already working with a skeleton crew and then they cut off more of our crew. We have officially LOST LIMBS! Employees are p-ss-d, sad, angry, ashamed, scared, and just plain tired of constantly battling the madness thrown at us by corporate. A layoff every year is NOT good for company morale!! We feel ashamed of this company. Betrayed by corporate, mourning the sea world that cared about its people and embarrassed that we have to clean up this companies messes and make sacrifices for a company that just keeps taking from us! TAKING: job opportunities for advancement, raises that used to happen seasonally, park perks, coworkers/work family, job security, our voices, our faith in the company havingour best interest at heart, stealing our time and paying us barely enough to eat, taking our reputation as a premier marine biology destination, taking any hope of a full time position with benefits and burning it to the ground, our loyalty and misusing it, taking the few CEO and leaders we trust and throwing them out on the street with a severance package.

Only so many jobs can be cut. Only so many workloads can be handed down and "redistributed". We are TIRED sea world. You all sit in your plush offices with air conditioning- crunching numbers on how much employees get paid, they are just another number to you. Easily replaceable, right? A machine can do their job, right? A machine can easily have a personal relationship with a sea lion, a beluga whale or other employees! No. But a machine can easily crunch numbers and fire people. How about the company fires some of those useless overpaid corporate keyboard tappers instead of people with heart.

It's not over. There's still another quarter left in the year and Sea world has been known to fire people during Christmas time.

I have worked at both Florida and San Diego parks and wish that this company would actually listen to employees. There are so many people who feel like they have nowhere to turn after these last layoffs. Any faith that was left in sea world is fading fast. It seems like this company is masochistic - and enjoys sabotaging itself.

Everyone is tired of running scared.

I asked my new manager and he stated that all these speaks of hourly restructures are just rumors. He said all is done and we are all safe. I don’t believe thier will be and restructure. I think we can all sleep well.

Feeling sick for days...these posts regarding additional cuts happening tomorrow has brought on more emotion than one can handle. Additional cuts, especially full time hourly cuts, will be detrimental to the parks....especially the zip code I work in. Best wishes to my colleagues, keep us posted tomorrow, as I pray this is a rumor.

Were told in California that we are being structured the same as Six Flags/Cedar fair. Not sure how their hourly leadership is structured. But I’m sure that’s whats next

Still very confused in Orlando, Senior Leaders and Leaders trying to figure out their new role , moral is so down. Most people believe more cuts are coming before the end of the year. 50 million was the number the CEO put out still have 35 or so to go!!

How are you supposed to do layoffs the right way? Of course it happens behind closed doors. The rest of your post is interesting as some departments weren’t touched in all parks, but it looks like over in Texas they’re hiring some supervisors so who knows what’s going to happen.

Everyone at work is saying we should all remain calm, but how can we trust what’s left of upper management in Orlando when they didn’t even see this one coming. Thank you for the info everyone. I’ll be waiting to see what happens Friday, or may be Monday. Who knows with all this chaos.

I work for Merchandise in SeaWorld Orlando and heard the samething about calling us to meetings on Friday. The meetings will be called out of the blue and hourly leadership will be called into groups into thier main offices. I talked to my management and they were told to keep hourly leadership calm. I’m so scared.
