This whole thing is ridiculous I have 21 years with the company never had a write-up in my file it comes down to the fact of whether your district manager likes you or not and I know for a fact that mine did not. There's no rhyme or reason I have worked with an assistant who is doing time card fraud giving items away to customers and because hes got the in with the district manager and their friends and they talk all the time he just got a slap on his wrist. But yet me if I was to do something like that I would have been gone a long time ago. Its supposed to be all service managers and stores that Received one truck a week then your store was going to be affected. But that's not the fact I know of stores that they were getting 2 trucks a week and because their district manager didn't like them they not only what that store manager go and then an assistant. They're spending so much money with this store of the future krapp that they put themselves in debt and said of stopping in realizing that All the money that they're pouring into all the stores is not giving them the results they need back there just pouring money down the dream and instead of giving the money back to their employee ease their lining their own pockets with it new phones every time you turn around free new leased cars. That's where you need to start cutting their expenses not with the people who are on your front line k–ling themselves for pennies on the dollar aisle because you are greedy.

If you think about it , we were done a favor we can all go out and find our new retail jobs now, before the market gets flooded with the currently employed soon to be unemployed Big Lots associates when the company closes. It will be a slow painful Big Lots death, almost like working there now but you will know what the end is going to be, kinda like death row, a few more payroll reductions, strategic store closures covered in some lame excuse like not a SOTF potential, but the store made money, rent to high, high shrink number....

For anyone that is left, What or Who is next???? More hours reduced? No Atl, only an Stl? Store Closures, Stls running 2 stores? What is left to cut?
Please dont be hopefull, it is not going to get better or end well! The day will not come that says they are adding in hours, spreading responsibility, increasing leaders, lowering CPH... not going to happen. It s—s now, and will continue to s— until they put you out of your misery and close your store.
Best of Luck!

Bruce knows he is the CEO of a sh– company . Its like being a slumlord, terrible place to live but the rents keep coming in. As long as that check clears every 2 weeks, he will still have that same sh– smug smile that he has in the Operation Star videos.
Why be afraid of Bruce now, your already umemployed. FU Bruce FU!

Im an STL we were not giving any notice on who was getting let go until after they made the calls. I had a feeling this was going to happen though not to this magnitude but sales are down and they have to right the wrong just like plans being ridiculous coming in 30 minutes late and leaving early. You have no coverage most days because hours are cut so much. This is not going to end well for any employees at big lots I suggest everyone find something new and better before the ship sinks

im not sure it was over 4000 people let go. These lay offs impact over 4000, the ones let go and the ones who stayed. Do the math, 1400 stores x 3 (1stl and 2 atl) = 4200. Not every stl or atl was let go, but they were impacted by the reorganization. The severance document labled "Summer 2019 ", (they have to keep track of all of the different layoffs), shows everyone affected. It looks like everyone that is eligible for severance / laid off is labeled with a yes, all other are no, meaning they are part of the impacted group but not laid off, just left to suffer in the Big Lots quagmire of misery.

You are lower paid. Anything under twenty is abysmal. That's one reason why you kept your job.

I don't think it had anything to do with how much you make. I have been with the company under 2 years and make over 18 and I am still there. I cant figure what their thought process on this was. I know managers that make a lot and weren't let go, and some that didn't make a lot and were.

I was told my position was eliminated in the morning and it was filled that afternoon by a lower paid newly promoted ATL. Does anyone know if they changed the stl title and job description ?

Someone make a anonymous email and email the wall street journal, Barron's, New York times, La times..... Tell them what has happened and how big lots is trying to keep it a secret. Leaders laid off from positions that weren't actually eliminated. Just an excuse to get rid of high paid people.

Big Lots' CEO, Bruce K. Thorn, has 130 employee ratings and a score of 63/100, placing them in the Bottom 30% of companies in the United States with 10,000+ Employees. It's clear, highest paid $ were let go, performance didn't matter, good or bad. They probably let some opposites go like, young, low paid, white, male to avoid impacting a specific protected class. This way if a lawsuit comes for discrimination, they can cover their butts. It was all about $$$.

Bummer I don't get paid my floating holidays. I was salary i worked so many 6 dayweeks, even a few 7 day weeks. 10 to 12 hour days just to make it happen. What a terrible retailer to work for.

Big Lots is a sh– show, I knew it when I started. I was paid a lot as an outside hire STL, I was replaced by an internal atl. Big $ savings. I get it, they need to save money. Its wad s—ing my life dry. I wanted to leave anyway, they were just paying me too much to go. My store was running good, i was going to double bonus, meeting all Q2 goals. The good quality people that are still there are going to leave then they will be left with the c-ap associates. I can't imagine It being more miserable than it is now but it will be. Sad!

The only reason that you are not seeing it all over the place is because they are trying to keep it hidden and all of the associates that were affected were unknowingly made to sign mandatory arbitration agreements last month in preparation for this

It's odd how this isn't in the media or internet anywhere, only here. You would think that It would be on a financial website being that big lots is a public company. They should just own it and say they reduced head count by laying off the highest paid associates in the stores. Has anyone seen this posted anywhere else. This amount of layoffs always makes the news. Too quiet, weird.

They eliminated tenures because it saves them the salaries they were being paid....the PTO they earned....the vacation times they earned. They will promote from within because there is a 10% cap on internal promotions. Then they will backfill anything else with new hires that are cheaper. It's a very desperate move on a company that will crash soon. Know now that when the next wave comes it may be doors closing and those people will get a locked door instead of severance pay. The stuff the stores are filled with comes from China mostly. Read the boxes. They get it shipped here ...up charge the customer. Look up any of these decor items from seasonal on Ebay then sort them lowest price first. Example: Haunted Halloween tv is $35 in Biglots. Online its $15 plus free shipping. As soon as the Jennifer's realize the pricing is ridiculous and start going online to shop...that company is going under. Furniture cant save them...its cheap trash. I've owned half the beds and sofas...they dont last a year. HAS ANYONE MADE THE FACEBOOK PAGE YET??? I think socially we need to go hard on there. Facebook gets the attention of all ages and social economics. Jennifer needs to see what Biglots truly does to families. Both from her family financial standpoints and from its employee treatment. I havent heard of many companies this bad that are still in business.

I am more mad at myself than anyone for letting myself stay long enough to get let go. I seen this coming months ago- no furniture person until 11, no floor associate until 1. When being the first stop on furniture truck meant manager had to unload it. No matter if it was 70 pc United or 85 pc Serta. Absolutely unreal, and I know if I endured this, many of you did as well. Basically the first couple hours and the last few hours of the day was spent just a cashier and manager. As someone else stated on here the corporate lay offs was definitely a sign of what was to come. I think these lay offs in the past couple of days are also a sign. Maybe store closings coming or more people been laid off. I could definitely see the Processing lead of DTS lead being next with the way the job role/responsibilities has changed putting the ATLM solely in charge of DTS.

I remember when the corporate layoffs happened a few months ago and my DM said on a conference call this shouldn't be of concern to anyone about Big lots and their financial situation. Then yesterday happened. Following the call and email was sent saying this is the final realignment for the company. Definitely do not believe that.

I am an STL just as upset as you all. Yes I have my job but lost one the best people. So many on my team have expressed concern and other in management at the store are saying they are looking for another job and I am as well. Absolutely corrupted the work environment and no morale. 3 years and BL will be no more. Those of us left need or get our now!

I saw the dynamic of Big Lots going down hill with the store of the future last year. The company spent too much money on subpar upgrades and the sales expectations became ridiculous with a workload with reduced hours/team members . I was an ATLS and never took breaks or lunch, worked my butt off and still couldn't cram my workload into the 9-10 hrs I averaged working everyday. No respect from the DM and the STL that wasn't mentally present....no one listened to concerns esp regarding store safety. It was not safe in many areas. I addressed osha's violations with upper mgmt and it was not taken seriously. I gave notice and left. 6 years with the company and I was completely taken advantage of! I heard the STL was let go yesterday. Maybe the one good move the Company made, but so shameful the way this whole ordeal went down. No respect for any Big Lots associates weather it be mgmt, DTS, furniture or cashier......just making low moral even lower! I agree with others, the company is going downhill fast! Sad!

Out of curiosity were any of the ATLM's that were let go or demoted make more than the ATLS who stayed in position? I'm seeing a lot of 10+ year veterans on here I'm pretty sure yall have to be close to the cap. I was over 17 an hour.
