Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Age of Associates and Managers involved in layoffs

I have it under good authority that the President of Walmart, although well in his 50's, has made the decision to layoff Associates and Management that are over 39. Possibly, he thinks by laying off people over 39, will improve his efforts to catch up with Amazon.........................? The age of the person does not define the tech knowledge.

Shady stuff is coming down! 2 of the lowest performing ASMs are going to be cut. Came from a Store Manager the other day.

I believe Walmart has potential to treat its employees pretty c-appily. But I seriously doubt the CEO of Walmart said to lay off everyone over 39 years old.

That being said, I do believe some age discrimination is occurring with the layoffs. I think anyone who costs a lot of money (which usually correlates with age) is getting laid off. It’s to the point now that nobody that I talk to at home office wants to get one of the badges that delineates years of service. That’s pretty sad.

I wish they would just layoff all the people that contribute nothing to the company. There is way too much dead weight. And as far as the rumours go, I only see the lazy asms squirming. I wish they would cull the dms the same way tbh, but hey, I'm not lazy...... It's sad working for a company where you're capable of so much more, but you're given nothing for going the extra mile because you don't want to promote into sh--ty hours. You have to wonder if Maybe you'll get more than a 2% raise with your above standards this year. Given the direction of the company, though, its not likely. I mean, yayy we now have incentive to show up, how about working on some incentive to get people to do actual Work while they're there? They only care about getting the slackers through the door and sending below standard workers to academy, hoping and praying that MAYBE they'll come back with a clue. Then, when they come back, they're Still dumb and Still lazy. Shocker. From what ive seen, age has nothing to do with it. I've seen lazy people of all ages and a select few (I say few because good work ethic is very rare) of the hardest workers I've known were actually over 40 so I honestly doubt what your saying is true. I've seen the company do many things that don't make sense, though. The biggest waste of money the company EVER thought up was academy. Good, knowledgeable, hardworking assiciates that can adapt to change and teach the processes working One on One with people is all that they would need for success. With the money they would save on travel expenses, food, and hotels, they'd be able to pay a good associate what they're actually worth... But they would never do that....

I think there is a spreadsheet with DOB info somewhere. WMT (and other companies) is required to file this with the state.

Age is the fastest growing form of discrimination, and there is n o t h i n g to be done about it. Very hard to prove----and impossible to prevent, at least on the pre hiring end. 'Oh, we're not allowed to ask your age on the application'. Sure. They just get the info from your s.s. # which is completely legal and necessary to obtain.
