Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

On Layoffs... Or Not...

Okay so I’m not saying anyone is right or wrong but this is my view:

Example:

C or D volume stores: if they have an ASM that makes much more than a Sup, they will be transferred if they are THAT good (the round of Dept manager layoffs, Store managers had a say! If they were good at CS, they were safe!) or otherwise mates off.

long timers (FT)- If they make too much they can either be promoted to a Sup position or let go (like the new Ops Sup position)

A&B- If you have multiple ASMs- they could be at risk. They would only do this based off of payrates- and their overall worth to the company. I don’t see Sups in any situation being at risk- that’s the new position and they hired (mind you EVERY STATE is different when it comes to wages so there is no one size solution) on a pay scale that would not tip the stores profitability into the red. They won’t ever eliminate the ASM role, but they need to get it to a manageable pay rate. They are trying to SAVE as many stores as they can! They do not have an easy job either and we all have to remember that there are 65000 employees.. we may lose a few to save a whole lot more. They know that they lose more by closing a store then by restructuring it. They value the stores and that’s why they have tried to invest into it what they can. I know most of us can’t understand how a corporate company should run but we all think we know better. Just remember that they have trimmed a lot of fat, and in my area, with the recent layoffs- they really only kept those who were the best. I’m not high up on the food chain but I can tell you that.

With ST stepping down- the activists want them to do way more layoffs and closures than ST ever did. And I will tell you now it’s not In the warehouses or in the call centers!

Be sure to read their plan because it’s not all sunshine and rainbows!

Not true. In my area they left go every ASM that had seniority. They kept all the new ones who had been promoted in the past 6 months. No regionals, district staff, or dm’s were eliminated. Thy sent a manager that was very good and capable packing and brought in a manager who doesn’t know how to do anything. It is a lot harder to get through the work day now. Glad I’m not a full timer or I would probably be up for elimination too. If you think these lay offs are anything more than salary cut blood-letting, your wrong.

To all the sheep working for BBB- move on. Upper management has drained this baby dry at your expense. Retail is thankless - even if you work for a good retailer. Upper management has turned you stupid. You can continue to drink the Kool Aid but you are being hosed.

Great post! Obviously well thought out, just like the higher ups having to make tough decisions.
